So, you stated your opinion on social media, some disagreed with you, and you feel hurt?  Happens to me all the time here.  25,000+ posts, I'm sure all of them weren't in agreement with everyone.

I disagree, everyone agrees with all of your posts.  Wait... :confused50:

I've found in general any time you attempt to place an assumption about someone or their equipment in financial terms you will get a potentially hostile exchange.

Money means different things to folks, and so does fishing. In the end we want to hook one of those fish on our lines and winch it in our boat, kayak, shoreline, net or whatever.....how we do that is up to us.

I just leave it at that and worry about bettering myself on the more tangible and granular things....like knot types

Not hurt at all just surprised at how some responded.

It was like they personally owned a high end rod/reel store and I was out front of their shop with a bullhorn trying to turn away prospective customers and take food out of their families mouths by having the opinion that you can do just fine on cheaper equipment.

I'd say, leave it.  Life's too short to worry about that stuff.

Did you put a smiley face or something similar after the comment?  I haven't been on FB in years, but I occasionally post a comment that could conceivably set people off on fishing forums.  (On purpose!  :teeth: )  I always add an emoticon so they know I am kidding.

I can eat $2 fast food burgers every night and survive. I choose not to because I enjoy food.

if I said anyone who spends more than $15 on food and does not get 3 meals is doing it wrong, what would you say to me?

I'm sure you are overestimating if you believe any of your 25K posts were in agreement with anyone...:D

Had something weird happen recently on FB.

A site dedicated to bass fishing ran a article about how to choose a spinning rod/reel combo.

Flippantly in the comments I posted "buy cheap. If you're spending triple digits and NOT getting 3 combos you're doing it wrong. I have a $15 combo that I use for any and all spinning applications and it has never failed me or failed to do what my buddy's rod (over $200 investment compared to my $15) could do."

The hate and vitriol that came at me from multiple anglers was surprising to say the least. After being called a a-hole, a loser, a cheapskate, a piece of excrement, and being told by the one guy that he should turn over his business to me because he must be doing something wrong I figured I'd stop by here and see if anyone else has run into this?

Ever find someone butthurt because you can do what they do only their setup costs 3 x as much as yours so they get upset?

I think you're wrong about this, but I can't imagine getting bent out of shape about it. I'd be content to say "hmmm...",  flash an arched eyebrow at you, and move on.

I met a carp guy the other day who looked like he had a $400 folding chair to sit in while fishing.

I stay away from social media. These forums and Tnation forums are it for me. That other stuff (facebook, twitter etc) just seems toxic.

Nothing.

I wouldn't feel the need to disagree with you, and I especially wouldn't feel the need to attack you personally, swear at you, etc....

telling someone they are doing something wrong because they don't want to fish with crappy gear (yes, it does catch fish) is a bit offensive IMO. and on social media you will get bashed for less than that.

I don't think you are doing it wrong by fishing with $15 dollar combos but youre definitely missing out!

Life is short. No one can make a case that fishing with garbage tackle is just as effective anymore than than making the claim that you need enthusiast level tackle to catch fish.

That said, fishing with good tackle is a joy, and most of us fish to have fun rather than experience frustration. Other than the tourny guys....lol. They are in it for money or recognition.

I'll add my PB 10lbs was caught with a bubble pack quantum spinning reel and a Shakespeare's rod from Walmart. I used excaliber silver thread 8lb test line. The bass didn't know the difference but maybe it did and didn't say anything it felt sorry for me, lol.

i use fin nor, globe, viva, us reel, okuma spinning reels.

im not cheap, don't call me cheap, I'm frugal. I'm eating above the dollar menu now. I miss those days of the $0.25 cheeseburgers. No happy meal for me but I do miss the toy. Lol

As others have said, when you state "you're doing it wrong," it comes off as condescending. Personally I could care less what others think about my arsenal, but I constantly read people getting bent out of shape over fishing gear. The anonymity of the internet brings out some interesting stuff. In the end, you are correct about using cheaper gear. It all catches fish, but since I spend more time fishing than catching I prefer using higher end gear which IMO makes the act of fishing more enjoyable.

If I were a die hard carp fisherman I would seriously consider both, but I'm not, not that I don't like carp, they can be serious contenders but sitting on my skinny butt for hours waiting for them to bite goes against my hyperactive nature, but I have nothing against casting a few lines while I take a break. Here's a pic of a nice un I caught while having a lunch break, it weighted like 14 lbs:

Now back the subject, OP, you ate doing it wrong when you tell somebody they are doing it wrong.

If you take some time and read threads related to yours, you will find BR members are usually helpful with constructive response. How about posting details about your $15 combo that could help other anglers who can't afford more expensive tackle instead of fighting with anglers who can afford $200 combo.

I haven't bass fished in Mexico very often other than salt water along Baja coast.

When I have the can with line wrapped around it is a common sight with kids bank fishing. At lake Guerrero years ago I tossed some kids up by the dam a bag of red Flip tail plastic worms we catching bass on. A few hours later we returned and those kids had a stringer of bass and were begging for more worms!
