Thechopz Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Thanks for your time in responding to my question for those of you who do. I work for a nonprofit to which will remain nameless because, well, I read the rules and don’t want to tick off any moderators.... We are in the beginning stages of setting a tournament up and have all pretty much bashed our heads against a wall trying to figure out how we should make the payouts. In regards to payouts what gets you more excited, and more so gets you online with signing up..... a percentage spread over the top 20 positions with a lower overall payout for the top Performing teams? Or a large sum for say the top 3-5? And what would that purse look like? 1k, 5K, 10k divided up in whatever payout structure? I’ve tried to research what Tournies are averaging for payouts but honestly our setup will be unlike anything that I/we have found so it’s hard to leverage what we’ve found. I guess what I’m asking is.... what top purse amount would get you off the couch on a day you weren’t necessarily going to be fishing...... and for that payout what would you expect the registration fees to be? Thanks!! And looking forward to some good discussion! Chopz. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I believe they are OK with people mentioning them, as long as it is strictly nonprofit. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted October 2, 2017 Super User Posted October 2, 2017 Personally would not want the entry's to be over $100 per team and hopefully at a place with "lots" of room and a good ramp. Also ... I kind of like payouts to go down the list a ways with not just the first couple getting the "lions share". On a side note....I get off the couch to fish club tourneys for almost nothing ...so...hmmmm. Just like tourneys and fun fishing too. 1 Quote

Agree What gets me off the couch isn't necessarily the payout it's the format. Teams...boater against boater...co vs co. When it comes to payout I like a gradual payout decline down the standings as Oregon Native said. Keep your entry fees in the 100 range for a team format and maybe 100 for boaters and 50 for co anglers if you go the separate division route. Being a non profit organization I know you'll want to get as many entries you can, but by keeping the fees low you may increase you participation more than just the pay out amount. Good Luck Mike 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 2, 2017 Super User Posted October 2, 2017 Typically, team format opens around here pay out places based on the number of entrants. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted October 2, 2017 Super User Posted October 2, 2017 Honestly, it depends on the size of the lake you're having the event on, and the number of boats you plan on having entered. If you're fishing a 20k+ acre lake and having 100+ boats, that's going to be totally different than having a tournament on a lake that's 2k acres with limited horsepower and ~20 boats. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I agree with a lot of what has already been mentioned. I'd side with a wider range of payouts over having a couple teams getting the majority of it. More payout slots seems more inviting and gives more folks a chance to win at least something. I believe this would be more inviting and might attract a bigger group of guys that otherwise wouldn't enter- guys newer to fishing, new to tournaments, or just guys that like to fish on occasion but would like to participate in the tournament to benefit your cause. david in va Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 if you have 30 and paid back 10 places, 100 bucks per = 3000, 1000 first, 500 2nd 250 3rd , 200 4th , 150 5th 100 6th-10th would leave 500 for biggest fish winner needs to get the largest part, I am not for the everyone gets a trophy thing, winning needs to mean something IMO 2 Quote

Russ E Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 there are weekly tournaments circuits on a couple lakes near me. they found if you spread the winnings out to more places instead of, just a few places, they get a lot better turnout. both pay 1 place for every 5 entries. Quote
