Hi guys,

My name is Paul. I'm new to this specific board, but been around for years on other hunting and fishing forums, so many of you probably know me well. I was wondering which of you guys are the biggest reel modification/upgrade junkies? I mean, when it comes to reel modifications, upgrades, and supertuning your reels for absolute best performance, WHO among you are the most dedicated to this aspect of fishing, and who is extremely knowledgeable??? I know you guys are out there!

Basically, I'm wondering, out of all the reel repair companies out there, who would you guys consider some of the absolute BEST in the business? I've got a Shimano 200 DHSV reel that is in need of repair (thinking the "one-way" roller bearing is worn), and I'd also like to possibly get this reel supertuned by someone who REALLY knows the trade. Someone who really knows these Shimano reels inside and out. A Shimano "GURU" if you will. Can you guys point me in the right direction here???

I was cruising the web, and came across davesreelservice.com , but I know nothing abour these guys, and figured you guys would.  ???  Upon reading his site, and his FAQ page, he seems very legit, but then again, thats only a guess.

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated guys!

I think you're going to be pretty hard up to find somebody that does a better job or has a better reputation than Ian Shields (E_Bassfisher) over on TackleTour. His contact is reel_tuner@yahoo.com. The guy is just amazing at what he does.

Shimanos are among the simplest to work on. There's no magic or secrets in any of this. It willingness, experience and a few tools. I'll be happy to tend to your reel service needs if you like. I extend a 10% discount off labor to members here. Just supply screen name when sending reels.

Be very wary of "super-tuners" advertising on-line.  I had one ruin a Shimano Calcutta.  Took a reputable service man to salvage the reel.  Go with reputable service people.  From what we've read on this forum, DVT is such a person.  He would not risk his reputation by screwing anyone.

Bruce at ReelEx is a Shimano reel expert, garrantees 90 day turn around anywhere in the USA. The site and forum sponsor DVT gets good reviews by BR members.

Give  Bruce call at ReelEx and Mike at DVT.
