Super User Team9nine Posted September 26, 2017 Super User Posted September 26, 2017 Different person then perhaps. There was a crankbait carver here in Indiana who went by the name "Whittler" online, whose real name was John Mills. John passed away a few years ago. 1 Quote

AllDayBASSIN Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I make wooden topwater lures! I really enjoy it and hope to meet more crafters on here! 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted October 31, 2017 Super User Posted October 31, 2017 I haven’t made them in quite some time but I have made poppers, prop baits and what I call a popper-prop. Imagine a popper with a propeller on the tail and that’s it. I also made one floating minnow and few that resemble somewhat the rapala dt flats. Just don’t really have the time anymore. 1 Quote
Chris Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I make all kinds of wood stuff whatcha wanna know 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted December 8, 2017 Super User Posted December 8, 2017 I make several types of wooden lures for my personal use. Hard to beat the feeling of catching a big bass on a lure you made with your bare hands. 3 Quote
Elkins45 Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 I used to make lures back in the 80’s when I only worked part-time. Now that I am retired I might take it up again. I didn’t just make topwater baits, I made some Rapela-like lures as well. Tuning them was a challenge it took a while to learn. Quote

I have about a half dozen of his lures. Allen 1 Quote
JawjaBoy Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I made several back in the day when I had lots of free time, but then life kinda got in the way and I pretty much quit for the last 15-20 years. However, I am trying to get back into it. Picked up a little lathe a few months ago and I just ordered some airbrush paint, sealers and clearcoat, as well as a good selection of hardware. With any luck I'll be able to start turning out some lures in the very near future. These are a few I made back then. Hopefully my future lures look a little more polished! 2 Quote
thinkingredneck Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I love those. Kind of retro, but man, I bet they work! Love the red head one. 1 Quote

I based a few of them off old lures and a couple are my own ideas. All carved from cedar. All of them have caught fish but the green and blue prop baits at upper left and top center have caught the most. There is NOTHING quite like catching a fish on a lure that you made yourself! 1 Quote
thinkingredneck Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I have some cedar and hope to carve some. I hope mine look half that good. Quote
