Dorado Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I have four lures that have been skunk-less (2016 -YTD 2017) at various waters and used numerous times to get placed in a special category. Largemouth bass, along with some channel cats, have all fallen victim here. How much longer can they keep the streak alive? White Zoom Grub (3") on a chartreuse Roadrunner Zoom Trick Worm (Candy Bug) Tx-Posed on a 3/0 Gama G-Lock -Weightless Strike King Red Eye Shad - 1/4 oz Chrome w/ Blue Back Roboworm FAT straight tail - SXE Shad on a dropshot with a Roboworm Rebarb hook. Anyone else here? One rule, has to have a flawless record after at least three outings on the water. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted September 25, 2017 Super User Posted September 25, 2017 The Trick Worm and Cordell Super Spot are the closest things I have to a sure thing. The GYCB Hula Grub is close as well. For a while it was the Zoom Craw and the Berkley Chigger Craw. And then there's the Rooster Tail. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 26, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 26, 2017 Ya know After I hit send I thought about it more.,There have been times the two I posted didn't produce. Not many but it has happened. Just this past weekend at the BFL Championship. I started with the Cut R but because we were in search mode I changed, which ended up being the absolute best move I made all year! Soooo, I rescind my previous response. ? Mike 4 Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Ned rig and shaky head, at least if you're only counting the times I gave them a fair shot. Sometimes I will only make two casts or something with a bait, not counting those. 3 Quote
HookRz Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Of course, the "Ned". But you can add 2 3/4 inch tubes, both hair and marabou jigs, and a few other plastic critters on 1/32nd and 1/16th oz heads, midwest Finesse style. Zoom Finesse worms on spider sliders too, on slightly heavier spinning rod. The only topwater to make the no-skunk list is probably a buzzbait at night. That's probably because I love to fish topwater plugs and use them when I shouldn't. 1 Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I wouldn't say it's perfect, but the drop shot has usually caught me fish every time I go out. 1 Quote
AC870 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Seems like every time I find the killer bait, they quit biting it the next time out. But Guntersville bass are fickle like that it seems. Quote
Fried Lemons Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Back to basics this season. 1/4 oz ballhead jig with a 3" power grub on the river. Not a perfect bait but pretty close at like 80%. I've caught largemouth, smallmouth, striped, and rock bass on this thing as well as the occasional walleye/catfish. Almost makes me feel bad about all those expensive hard baits I have sitting in the box. 1 Quote

I have zero confidence with hair and Marabou jigs. In need to change that...... going to try the float and fly technique this winter with some Spro Phat flies. 1 hour ago, Fried Lemons said: Back to basics this season. 1/4 oz ballhead jig with a 3" power grub on the river. Then I'll spend a couple bucks for a pack of grubs that will keep my rod bent a year long. Quote
CroakHunter Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I don't throw it every time I go out, but the magnum rage bug has produced big fish for me every time I have given it a fair chance. Pitching, jig trailer, chatterbait trailer, wobble head etc. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 26, 2017 Super User Posted September 26, 2017 No for me. The closest thing to near perfect is live bait, lol. 1 Quote
Angealy Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I've done well with live bait, berkley trout worms, senko, frogs always get me some kind of fish. Like today, I was killing it on my fly rod setup, Used just a pink berkley trout worm, small hook and everything wanted it. I got a bunch of panfish and even a bass they really love these things.
