jbmaine Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Don't ya hate it when you put something in on Craiglist, and someone calls and say's they really want it, can't wait to stop by and see it, and then you never hear from them again. I've got my boat for sale on Craiglist and this has happened to me twice now. Everybody has a right to change their mind, but for goodness sake, have the decency to call and say so. Sorry, I had to vent, Jim 1 Quote
frosty Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Yes. I had the same experience several times. I sold a saltwater aquarium by the piece, I had a guy call me about it, said he’d be there a certain time, never showed, another guy said he wanted it so I said come and get it, then the other guy calls back (a week after he was supposed to come get it) and gets mad at me because I sold it out from under him. Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 24, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 24, 2017 I've had the wool pulled over my eyes on some craigslist stuff, I buy stuff in stores now Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 24, 2017 Super User Posted September 24, 2017 that is part of dealing with craigslist and the reason i have an old email that i use only for stuff like craigslist. To me there is no holding anything either. Unless you give me a deposit then it is being sold to whoever i want whenever i want. Quote
Russ E Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 i personally will not buy things off of Craigslist. had a couple friends get ripped off. a couple years ago a local father and son met a guy off of Craigslist by the local zoo, on a car deal. the father and son were murdered and the car was stolen. While there are millions of legitimate deals on Craigslist everyday, I prefer to not do business that way. Quote

They would list baby strollers, cribs etc. The buyer would meet with the seller then get robbed at gunpoint. My stepdaughter bought a bassinet off one of those sites(not craigslist) I drove her and I was packing. Turned out to be an extremely nice 30 something mom. Kinda crappy that it has come to this. A guy shouldn't have to bring a gun along to buy a baby bed. I've only made one transaction off craigslist and that was for this. Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted September 25, 2017 Super User Posted September 25, 2017 Normally, we refer to craigslist as the home of the unwashed That being said, I have purchased a big ticket item......MY BOAT!! I sold my guide boat in Florida (was detailed there for 2 years for my job) before I returned to Virginia and I started the process to look for a replacement. I have a friend who cruises Craigslist regularly for fishing gear and just curiosity. He called me one day with an ad he saw. Long story short, I met up with the seller 3 times over a 3 week period before we closed the deal. That being said, I do not list anything on craigslist since I have enough outlets for selling stuff without them. My Craigslist purchase.... 1 Quote
jbmaine Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 Hi all, Thanks for the replies, I know craigslist can be hit or miss, but the last guy who contacted me was very interested. we talked a couple of times, and it came down to him saying if my boat was as advertised, he would buy it. We agreed to meet at the boat launch of a local lake to take it for a spin. I was just waiting for his call to confirm the time. He never called. I called and left a message, and E-mailed him. No reply. As I said, everyone has the right to change their mind, but they should at least have the courtesy to let you know. Jim 1 Quote
