mcfishing620 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Anyone have any issues with the Daiwa Lexas in 300 and 400 size? I have a 300HS with power handle and a 400PWR with power handle. Both are for Musky, HS for smaller and faster baits, 400 for huge baits. Both are unused, but I'm wanting to possibly sell for Shimanos since I'm a Shimano guy. Just concerned about long term durability and quality of the reels since I haven't really used much Daiwa and I know these aren't top of the line or anything. Quote
Jelvas Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Well... if you don´t use them you don´t need to be concerned about their durability! Now on a more serious note... i´m a Shimano guy myself (although not fanboy at all) and i do have one Lexa 300 (7.1:1) since the time they came out, and it´s been one great reel! I use it for big baits only and it handles them with ease and as held up really well, if you´re really determined on switch to Shimano go for it... but you will be missing on some very nice reels. Super User webertime Posted September 22, 2017 Super User Posted September 22, 2017 Pretty darn bomb-proof reels. For what you could sell them for, then what you'd have to add out of your pocket to replace with Shimano equivalents, you'd be spending a good amount with little to no performance gain. I've had a 300 and beat the snot out of it with no issues. Quote
mcfishing620 Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 Sounds good to me. They're just itching to be used. Spooled with PowerPro and cast a freakin mile with those musky baits. They have nice power handles too. Had to do a little switching for the 300 in order to get one on it, but it helps being the HS. Quote
ThisEndUp Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 If you are going to sell them I'm in the market for a 300. Just thought I'd throw that out there Quote
mcfishing620 Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 I'll think about it. What's a fair price? Spooled with new 65lb green PowerPro. Only used the reel once to set the spool drag. Quote
RB 77 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 All the people I know with those reels love the durability on them. Quote
tkunk Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I've heard quite a few musky guys say that the Lexa 400s aren't as durable as Shimanos or Revo Toros. Quote
clh121787 Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I had a lexa 300 for about 2 years maybe it was made on a monday. Used it on a xheavy swimbait rod mostly used it for rats . And 250s. It started out great. But it felt like it started to flex over time and the gears got rough and in a bind. Then after more time and hard use. mid cast the thumbar Freespool would disengage stopping the spool .casted off 2 baits.I had it rebuilt and sold it. Have had a 300 curado since and like it better. Michaelangelo Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 What size lures? Lots of good reviews on them out there, and videos of them in some pretty rough fights with saltwater fish. Quote

Also check out some musky forums to see what people who've owned them for more than one season say. In the musky world, fish don't damage reels: lures do. Rip jigging 12-16 oz baits, burning big, hard pulling baits, and the occasional backlash with big lures can wear reels down quickly if they're not well-built. Quote

And these are the problems they're having? Wouldn't these be issues with any reel? Quote

I've heard of the thumbar thing being an issue and I've had it happen a couple times with mine. I just keep the joint of my thumb on the thumbar now when I cast to make sure it doesn't disengage. Definitely not with a Tranx 500. I have two, so I can speak from personal experience. I've also had a 300 and 400 for less than a season, so it's hard to speak to the longevity of either, but they've both held up to quite a bit of abuse. Quote
Michaelangelo Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 You have the 300 and 400 Tranx you mean? Or Lexa? I'm a Shimano guy at heart. 10 of my 12 are Shimano, my only 2 that aren't are the Lexas haha. Quote
