Largemouth21 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Shakey heads... Ive been reading about them and I've decided to get some. For trick worms mostly. Which brand makes the best shakey heads? How heavy do i need? Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted September 22, 2017 Super User Posted September 22, 2017 Weight totally depends on how deep and what type of water you are going to be fishing them. I use 1/4 oz as my go to. Personally, there are a lot of companies that offer shakeyheads and it is pretty easy to find them after you decide which style works best for you. I like the Spot Sticker Pro style with the coil baitkeeper. I have found a lot of that style at discounted prices from other makers. I use a smaller bait for my shakeyheads (Yamamoto Pro-Senko) and the coil keepers work best. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 "Best" shakey head is opinion of course. Personally I prefer Megastrike Shake2 Pro Model shakey heads. I only fish shakey heads for one week a year while on vacation so take this with a grain of salt as I'm no shakey head expert. But I caught most of my fish on vacation this year with the above head in 3/16 or 1/4 ounce with a Zoom trick worm. 1 Quote

Pro Logcatcher Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 I will fish the Zoom five-inch straight tail worms on a shakey head. Seems to work well on fish and it looks awesome in the water. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted September 22, 2017 Super User Posted September 22, 2017 Much is written on the subject - for starters google : Jeff Kriet , Aaron Martins , Brett Hite + shakey head set up . My preference is : 7' M XF spining rod , 2500 series spinning rod with a smooth drag , 10 lb. yellow braid + Sunline Sniper #7 lb. FC line , join the two lines with the Alberto knot . Most any straight tail worm will work - favorites include : Zoom Trick Worm / Finesse Worm , Berkley Bottom Hopper (6.25" & 4.75") , Fat Robo Worm StraightTail 6" ,Strike King KVD Perfect plastic Finesse worm , Worm Colors : Green Pumpkin , Watermelon Red and June Bug / Red Bug will over most any water condition , Shakey Heads : Start out with Strike King Tour Grade Shakey Heads (Round or Football shape) in Green Pumpkin in 1/8th oz. (85% of the time) and 3/16th oz.(15% of the time) weight . *This is enough to get you started - plenty of reading material on this site for shakeyheads as well as google recomendations I presented above ... 1 Quote

Super User whitwolf Posted September 23, 2017 Super User Posted September 23, 2017 http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=zenith+shakeyhead I use 1/4 oz mostly and I fish It a number of ways. The trailers I use are R.I. smallie beavers, Zoom finesse worms, standard and magnum, and a Zoom 4" dead ringer. 1 Quote
wdp Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I've had good luck with the owner ultra, Picasso, and a few other brands of shakey heads. Matter of fact, caught 5 this morn on a shakey head. Only thing I tried that got bit. Zoom trick & finesse worms work well, as do ultra vibe speed worms. Bass Assassin Tapout worms work well too & will stand straight up. Last few weeks I've been using a pack of Gambler Sweebo worms I found lying around in all my tackle junk. They stand up straight too & I've been having success with them. 1 Quote
CroakHunter Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I like magnum shakey heads. 3/8 and 1/2. With an xcite baits maximus worm. 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted September 23, 2017 Super User Posted September 23, 2017 Jewel Squirrel Head jig with Zoom finesse worm - 1/8 oz. 1 Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I make my own now on 2/0 and 4/0 owner light wire needle point hooks, but I used to really like the owner ultrahead shaky head with the screw lock. 1/8 oz. most of the time, but I'll throw a 3/16 or 1/16 occasionally. The list of worms that won't work on a shaky head would be shorter than the list of worms that do work, but the only two I still carry are the zoom finesse and full sized trick worms, and zman finesse and full sized wormzs. 4.5 inch worm on a 2/0, 1/8 ounce head gets the most use. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 24, 2017 Super User Posted September 24, 2017 I make my own since I started pouring jigheads anyway. Anything from 1/8 to 1/4oz seems to work with a straight tail worm. The last 2 years I have been using Zoom Swamp Crawlers since they are soft and cost like $4 for a 25 pack. Allen 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 For years, before the term shakey head came into existence, I used the technique with light jigs to target weed tops. I still do, but opt for the more stand-up design of today's models. I've taken that to the rocky bottom transition areas with the heavier MegaStrike jigs and Havoc Bottom Hoppers with good success on some very tough days. Weight depends on depth. I want to keep it on the bottom without moving it, so I go a little heavy. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 25, 2017 Super User Posted September 25, 2017 I like Megastrikes and Siebert's (the ones called Zenith now.) There's lots out there now with screwlock and as long as the hooks are correct for you (worm vs ewg; size; sharp, etc), then I'm not sure the head makes all that much difference to me. You can put most any plastic on, but I've had the best luck with Reins Swamp Mover....by far. 1 Quote
Bulletman20XD Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Pepper Custom Baits Penetr8tor---Started using them this time last year and attribute at least 5 tourney wins to these heads paired with Zoom Z3 Trick worms. Most all heads will work to a degree, but these heads come thru cover great. They excell in grass due to the head design. They as well as some others will stand a 7 inch trick worm straight up every time. 1 Quote
