Jigs in stained water

Alright so over the summer I have forced myself to learn to use jigs and I am now hooked... Hehe anyways. The lakes I fish tend to be clearish but also stained. I have had good luck on my main lake with a green swim jig with a kietech swim trailer. Although I have found myself striking out the last few times in muddy water. I haven't used football or flipping jigs much mostly swim jigs. What are some great jigs and colors for stained water about 3 or 4 ft visibility and especially in the colder months? Thanks in advance.

Hard to beat the time tested black/blue. I like Arky style jigs in 3/8 to 1/2.

i fish stained water mostly!! the shoreline is clear for a few feet then it gets dark. i know the exact water clarity your fishing,  my favorite waters! black blue jigs are my favorite color, black is my second favorite! crawl that **** on bottom when its colder!! caught some very large fish on that in cold water!

Black and Blue with a Rage Blue bug or Black Blue Craw.  Bama Craw is another one of my favorites with a matching Bama Craw Rage Craw.

I like to use black/blue jig with a blue trailer, or a black jig with blue trailer.  Usually one of those colors will work for me.

Clear water, stained water, muddy water ..... any color is fine as long as it's ---> BLACK.

I haven't used many regular jigs, although black and blue wit either a watermelon red flake SK Rage Tail Structure Bug or black sapphire Zoom Z Craw Jr as a trailer has worked when I've used them. I mainly use bladed jigs/chatter baits. Black and blue, white, and breaking bream have worked very well for me with either sprayed grass Sweet Beavers, Bait Fish Super Flukes or SK Rage Tail Structure Bugs for trailers. I don't fish any really clear water. Not much of that around close to where I live.

Dark colors black with chartreuse accents work well . I've done well with black jigs and a black craw with chartreuse pincers .

The stained water I fish is usually not stained from muddy runoff, but from sediment stirred up from weekend boat traffic or heavy winds, and algae blooms.

 

I almost never use a rattle on my jigs, and catch fish just fine going with these color combos when the water is dirty:

 

Sunny days: Green pumpkin with orange and chartruse

 

Cloudy days: black and blue or black and purple. 

 

That almost never varies.

 

My trailer choices however change on a whim. A year ago these trailers would have been totally different...I was on a big chigger craw and Pit boss kick for a while, before that it was yum Christie craws, net bait paca craws, etc...you get the picture. But that's part of what makes fishing fun. Changing stuff up and still catching fish is something I like to do.

 

This is what I am currently using for trailers:

 

If there is no wind I use subtle trailers like a RI Sweet/smallie beaver, or  GYCB fat baby craw. If there is wind, I put an "action" trailer on. I have been liking the Keitech crazy flappers a lot this year, as well as the Jackall  chunk craw, 

 

I also have a few "tweener" trailers, that offer more action than the subtle ones, but not as much as the higher action trailers. I like to use these as a change up to coax a few more bites out of an area that seems to have shut down on one or the other trailers. I would put the RI Twerk/Petite Twerk in this category. They have produced very well this summer for me.

I have caught fish from 0 to 30 ft visibility on a black jig.  Black, Green Pumpkin, and Brown are the main colors I use.

Lot of ya use the black blue. Is switching up your colors ok? Like using green pumkin with black blue? Like a green pumkin bug on black blue jig? I got tea colored water here.

YES. A favorite of mine is putting an electric shad rage swimmer on a "watts bar special" (green pumpkin & purple). if they're eating bluegill or shad(especially around slips  ) skip to the back of a slip and hold on
