Hi all,

I am looking for some recommendations on cleaning/ lubrication material. I am new to completely disassembling my reels and cleaning them.

I am wondering if you could help me understand what you are using to get the job done.

Since I have different brand reels (Shimano, Daiwa, Abu, Lew's) I am wondering you guys can recommend lube, grease, etc. that works for all reels?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers!

I just bought some Eagle Claw reel oil. There are all kinds of brands, but I don't think it really matters. I just put a couple drops under the bail and was good to go. If I was going to get into the gears I would use reel grease.

Have mostly Shimano's myself and have stuck with shimano grease and oil.  Reels have done well for years.  No complaint's.

External cleaning - Simple Green followed by a coat of car wax.

Internal cleaning - Simple Green, acetone or naphtha for soaking bearings. An old toothbrush for scrubbing stubborn gunk.

Oil - Any good quality light oil will work. I use Tri-Flow or turbine oil. Rem Oil works well, also.

Grease - Abu reel grease or Yamaha blue marine grease on gears and sliding metal parts and Cal's on the drag washers.

I clean most of the reel with a toothbrush, water, and dish soap

The best cleaner in my opinion for bearings would be simple green. I place the bearings in the solution while I do everything else

Oil- tsi321 by far for worm gear and bearings

Grease- Cals Reel Grease for the gears

Super Glue on gears, Loctite Red on bearings and JB Weld on the worm gear. Can't figure out why i can only cast 6 inches.

wd40 to clean the grease, dawn to clean the wd40, coat all internals with brake free clp.  ss bearings acetone, air compressor then 3in1.  ceramics, acetone then air compressor.  exterior, wd40.  all can be found at walmart, brake free clp in gun cleaning section, next to remoil.  baby wipes and wd40 on reel and rod handles too.
