BucketmouthAngler13 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Powerworms are the best I've ever used and have cought me alot of big fish. When it comes to curly tails, I only use these. Their powerlizards are amazing also, I cought my PB along with severel other bass in a hour on these in black/blue. As far as mono goes, XL is the only stuff I use. By far the best line I've tried. berkley Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 me and my dad use lighting rods and we love them and i use trilene line every now and then but i hate there baits Quote
Gorgebassman Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I use and carry alot of there stuff I have been having good luck on the BEAST lately and have had great success with the power worms and there power grubs not to keen on the gulp series of baits im like rolo cant get past the smell. I have also had great success with there fising line. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 The 4inch and 7inch Powerworms work pretty well for me. Other then that I usually use GYCB products and various topwaters/hard jerkbaits. Saltwater though... Now thats another story.. Quote
PondHunter Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I really like their powerbait lineup. Since I usually have a soft plastic tied on, any style or color I need is covered. Have way more crankbaits than I will ever use so I cant comment on the Frenzy lures. The Gulp! lures work really well, but are kind of spendy considering the durability of them. For rods that are in the price range of an Ugly Stik that is what I would rather have. As for line, I usually have XL on my rods. I got tired of spending all that money on braids and flourocarbon since mono still works so well. They keep improving it too, instead of letting it fall behind to the point of being obsolete. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 14, 2007 Super User Posted June 14, 2007 To my mind, Berkley is not a consistent company. Well put! Their mono line is decent, but Vanish is crap. The various soft plastics are good, but I don't like the Frenzy hardbaits. I haven't used any of their rods, but the ones I've seen seem kinda cheap. I also agree. Hit and miss. Quote
norm2525 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I have never been a real big fan of berkley but I do like there big game line. I have never had any problems with it. I do not like the vanish line, I have had nothing but problems with it. Also, have one of their rods and I have had problems with it. I couldn't keep a reel on it, no matter how tight it seemed. I finally was able to fix it though. I love the action of the rod though. Quote
captbob Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 For me, the only standout that Berkley leads the competition with is Fireline Crystal and that only on a spinning outfit. No one dominates across the board and price doesn't always guarantee "the best". Quote

ABC123 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Overall I view Berkley as a strong brand and trust most items with the Berkley name. I love the Power Worms although I tend to throw Senkos more often now. I have a Berkley 'Technique' rod I bought years ago, it's my favorite worming rod. I use the Berkley XL line, it's great. I think the Berkley accessories (hook sharpeners, pliers, etc) are cheap junk. But it seems all manufactures are creating cheap junk to satisfy the casual Walmart angler. I dont know about that my line spooling station has been going strong for a long time I like mine too. I got it on sale for just over $20. Not sure if I would have liked it as much if I would have paid 30 for it. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 To my mind, Berkley is not a consistent company. I love their "Trilene" line, it ranks among the best monofilament lines in the world (XL, XT, Sensation and Big Game). When their Power Worm was in vogue, I was using Manns Jelly Worms, Mister Twisters & Culprits, so I kind a missed that one. To my knowledge they only make one jig, but it's not bad (Yelas won a tournament using the Berkley jig a few years ago) I understand their "Gulp" products are very good, but I can't get past the smell (i.e. stench) Currently I'm not using any Berkley lures (but I don't marry lures, so that's subject to change) Their rods? Well...Uh.... Roger Ditto. Also, the way the gulp stuff turns to leather is a large drawback. Just curious to see how many people prefer Berkley products over other fishing products. Well, they can take their "new" XT mono and stick it up their... I've been using this on my Tierra since March, both freshwater and saltwater with awesome performance. I am surprised how satisfied I am and will consider it a new low cost alternative. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 17, 2007 Super User Posted June 17, 2007 If Berkley is watching this thread....Please bring back the MAG action (heavy action) 6'6" Series One triggers. They were the best pitchin' sticks you had and are awesome deep jigging rods. Not to mention better in milfoil too. Geez...give us back some power please. I'm on my way to get a St Croix Premier 6'6" heavy action trigger now because you don't have one!! Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 I have no problems with Berkley Power Baits. I used to use Big Game all the time with no problems, but have switched over to Yo Zuri (thanks RW). Purefishing did anglers a disservice when they purchased Fenwick and Abu Garcia. These are not the same brands that they used to be. It will be interesting to see what becoms of Purefishing now that they are owned by Jarden company. Brad Quote
