I am just getting back into fishing after about a 15 year break.

Trying to find the best reel for $100.00 or less.

When I bass fished before it was mainly with Abu Garcia 5000, 5500 C3, and 4600 C4 reels on Berkley Lightning rods. I cannot believe what they want for those reels now!

Anyway, I think I have narrowed it down to the following

1. Abu Garcia Revo X

2. Diawa Fuego CAT

3. *** Origin C

4. Shimano Casitas 150

I am starting from scratch so I don't want to waste a bunch of money trying to figure out the best reel.

Thanks for any advice!

Daiwa tatula ct is top of my list.  They can be had for under $100 on eBay.  From the research I did I believe it outperforms the Fuego.

Welcome aboard!

Plenty of choices in the $100 range, but I'd probably go

for a Daiwa. If a Tat can be found for the $100, grab it.

I haven't used one, only used a Lexa (gave to a son).

Currently use a Chronarch 50e, and lots of Stradics. So

I'm a Shimano guy for the most part, but with my Daiwa

experience, you can't go wrong.

It can also be had for 70 bucks right now on Academy

Used curado 200i, or new tatula ct. I don't think anything else is even in the ballpark.

This...actually have both for sale in the for a market lol

I know you said $100 and, yes, I'm gonna be "that" guy that suggests a more expensive reel...but...you can get a Tatula SV on eBay for $132.95 free shipping.  That puts you in a reel that is on par or better than many reels in the $200+ range for only $33 more than you are talking about spending.  Of course you didn't mention the type of fishing techniques you want it for so maybe the SV spool isn't as important, but just FYI.  Of course right now at Academy you can almost get two CTs for that money so perhaps that is more to your needs.

Or be happy and buy a new reel, either the Caenan, $74 at Academy or the Casitas for $89 at Academy and it comes in the left hand 7 speed. I have both of these and love them.

Whenever I buy something used I usually spend more fixing it to bring it back up to par than had I just bought a new one, whatever it may be. Unless I am not particular, never me, or know where it is coming from and have seen detailed photos, I would prefer a new one, in a green box.

If you use a LH retreive, Cabelas has the Lew's Super Duty L on sale for $99.  It is a really sweet reel for that price. I bought two. Though I'm a righty I prefer LH retreive for my  baitcasters.  I prefer to work the rod with my right hand and crank with my left. Probably because for the first 50 years of my fishing life I used spinning reels and it is what I'm used to.

Wish I hadn't seen this. Lol

You and me both lol, I don't even know what I'm going to do with mine yet but I've wanted to try a Tatula for a while and once a deal gets to 40+ % off is where I start making impulse purchases.

i have been fishing two fuego ct's this whole season, and love em. ive used them for everything.  i actually just ordered a third one from tackle warehouse. they also have a promo going on too if you buy a fuego ct, you receive a free spool of 30lb daiwa j braid. best $100 reel in my opinion. i have a tatula ct as well and while its a nice reel the fuego seems to be the same reel as the tatula ct minus the twing system (not a fan of twing)

good luck whatever you chose

I bought revo sx gen 4... and it's a smooth reel man. I consider myself an abu guy too. The revo x looks like it'd be a great purchase too. Better than the pro max or revo s. The x was gonna be my 1st choice, but I wanted to try out their dual braking system which is in the sx. On ebay this one guy was pricing the sx for 100.00 which is where I bought one.

Thanks for all the advice folks! I am just going to have to get to a shop and play with the reels and see what fits best.

If your looking for a budget reel look at the H2o express reels academy sales.  im a Shimano guy myself but at the urging of my uncle picked one up just to try it. he was right they are a best bang for your buck type reel .. No they are not a chronarch but you can buy 4 + for the the same price ..

A person can't keep up with all the new reels unless he is someone like Bill Gates.  I agree the Tatula is a fine reel even at full price.  No experience with the new Fuego, but TT gave it a very good review and the few guys on here that have used it have been very satisfied.  No experience with Caenan or Casitas.  Or the new Revos.  I like the Shimanos I have and a Gen1 STX has been a very good reel for me.  Gen3's often got complaints (not from everyone, tho) but I've never used that generation.  Hopefully the Gen4 reels are back to being the quality reels many liked in the Gen1 and Gen2 series.  Never used an H2O, but it is another reel often mentioned when recommending a low cost reel.
