I take my rowdy friends fishing almost every time although I don't mind fishing alone. Some of them will show up with a handful of inline spinners and whip us all!

Funny thing, when I fish with others it seems my mojo goes out the window. When I'm alone I get in the zone and do real well.

I find that to be true. I think I'm trying to have others do well and my concentration level or just become complacent. I certainly am not in the same zone I am when I'm by myself.

Funny, I've heard that trolling motor excuse so many times over the years, claiming the co-angler is always fishing "used waters."  I offer that person the opportunity to run the TM almost every time but they always decline because its just too much work.

I have found that with a couple of my friends recently that they are simply using the wrong setup for the situation/lure.  Trying to get a good hookset using a spinning setup and 8 pound mono just doesn't work well for fishing frogs in the slop.

I havent had too many experienced bass fishermen fish with me in recent years. So there isnt many excuses. One friend I fished with was always analizing the weather as his reason for not catching fish.

I take more inexperienced adults and kids fishing and since they dont know much anyway they dont normally make excuses.( but they do ask lots of questions )

I went several years with a buddy that was Intolerable when he was catching fish and down right crappy when he wasn't. He was a big excuse maker and the last year fishing with him broke me of fishing with anyone for quite a while. I fish alone or with my wife now and have for several years. it works, I/we have fun, and whatever the reason why I/we don't catch fish might be up for debate but I/we always have FUN!

One of my buddies used to say it was because I was running the trolling motor so I was getting first shot at the fish. While this might be partially true, the wind always blows here, so a lot of times I'm fighting the wind with the motor while I'm trying to fish. I offered him the trolling motor one windy day so I could sit in the back and do nothing except concentrate on fishing. I think he understood much better what I was talking about it not being as much an advantage as he believed after that day.

Being at the front of the boat when it's windy is a ton of work...and you wind up missing a lot of spots the guy in back can plunk a bait into easily while you fight with the boat.

I always try to put my buddies on fish by suggesting spots to hit, techniques to use, or baits to switch too.  Sometimes all the help is for nothing.  They just don't get it!!!!!!!!

Years ago, I was fishing a lake with a guy...and I was pulling two or three fish off every dock...and the other guy...one fish every couple docks...at best.

I kept offering to rig him up like I was...but for hours, he wouldn't make the move...finally gave up and agreed to rig up like i was...caught fish in 4 casts...

Letting people help you isn't a bad thing...

I mostly fish alone since I got the canoe but when I fished with a friend he would use every excuse in the book. When we were fishing out of my boat it was because I was running the TM and taking all the good spots. When we were in his boat it was because he spent most of the time running the TM and not fishing. Once he told me the reason he hadn't caught anything all day was because of a "cold front" that came through. I had no problem with the "cold front" and caught plenty. I think it was the fact that he wouldn't use baits that were proven to catch fish on the lake and instead, used baits he thought would work. Not to mention not changing baits that didn't work.

My girlfriend is the excuse maker.  She loves fishing but doesn't really try to learn or improve. While bass fishing I'll tell her what baits to use or what rod etc.. But she's always dead set on using white gulp worms cause she caught a 3lber 3 years ago, or a Kelly worm because someone who isn't me told her it works good.  She'll watch me out-fish her 6:1 but would rather tie on something completely different than use what I'm using.. But the excuses are always the weather or the gear, or a bad spot... Somehow she out fishes me with trout sometimes though lol.

This poor excuse for a fisherman just needs to come to terms with the fact that he gets out fished by a woman who only uses Senkos and has never read a fishing magazine, watched a show, or visited Bassresource while he does on a daily basis. Sucks to be that guy!

My wife doesn't bass fish but does fly fish, we go to Colorado every year and on most days she catches more or bigger trout than son and I. Guides all comment that she has very fluid, gently cast that presents the fly so naturally.....I don't know if true but I am always happy when wife or son out fish me. As matter of fact the first thing I tell all our guides is "don't worry about me, just focus on them".

"Dude, it's like 30 degrees in the morning!"

That's the excuse I keep getting from my buddies as to why they won't go fishing.

I like fishing with people and I enjoy fishing alone.

There is just something magic about being in a cove all by yourself catching a few.

Sometimes there can be compatibility issues with a partner. He like jigs in slop, you like Rat-L-Traps and squarebills. You can short change yourself and the partner.

I think a good example of how someone in the front of the boat DESTROYS the person in the back is watching the FLW tour and the co-anglers. The co-anglers do not suck by the way, but it is very very very very rare that they have a better day than the person in the front of the boat. First cast, speed, and positioning can make a world of a difference.

Now, with the trolling motor being run at a considerate speed for the person in the back, I see it all the time where people in the back have a chance at catching a bigger fish. Again, I like our rule. Whoever catches a 4+ pound fish goes to the back of the boat and everyone rotates up. Good system.
