jbmaine Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Hi All, I have been given a gift card for BPS @ $125. and so I am thinking of adding to my small selection of rods. Quite frankly with the vast selection of choices out there I am some what confused as to what to look at, so I am asking for suggestions. I would like a general purpose spinning rod to throw baits from around 1/2-1 oz. Anything from heavier jigs to wopper ploppers, spinner baits, etc. I already have a symtre reel to go on it. If anyone could recommend a rod or rods that would adequately cast these baits for that price range I would really appreciate it. Thanks Jim Quote
PatrickKnight Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 The Carbonlite rods are nice in that price range. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 18, 2017 Super User Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) Jim, in addition to Patrick's suggestion of the Carbonlite, which I also like, have a look at St. Croix's Premier lineup, BPS (usually) has a wide range of those spinning rods. And perhaps a person in the know from BPS can confirm whether or not the Carbonlite series of rods are going the way of the Dodo? Online only one spinning model is available. So Jim, also consider the new Pro Qualifier 2 rods, which now occupy the price range the Carbonlites did... http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/st-croix-premier-series-spinning-rod Edit: just back from browsing BPS...been a while since I've visited, and not thrilled with the changes to the site, but oh well. There are many rods in your price-range. Fenwick is another I'd throw in the mix. If your local BPS has some, take your reel in with you (or borrow one from them) and try it out on several rods to see how each feels in your hands. Edited September 18, 2017 by Darren. Quote
jbmaine Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 Thanks for the advise. I also noticed a Falcon Bucoo SR that fits the price range. I have a BPS about 1 1/4 hr's away. I'll have to plan a trip Jim Quote
