You're really just looking to keep the bait in one place, and keep the line somewhat taught. that's kinda what I was thinking. im mostly looking to fish 20-30 feet and probably almost vertical. I was gonna go atleast 1/4 probably 3/8 maybe ill even go up to 1/2. I mean your not worried about a slow drop like a senko or fluke. you just want that thing glued to the bottom right? so that you can twitch your bait in place without moving the sinker unless you intent to? Hot Rod Johnson Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 My set up for "Vertical Dropshoting" is different than "Horizontal Dropshotting"... I have covered this in a earlier thread... "Vertical Dropshoting" for me consists of Sunline Super FC Sniper 7lb, using a 7 to 8 foot leader tied to Sunline SX1 Braided Line Hi-Vis Yellow 12lb... For "Horizontal Dropshot" fishing I use Sunline SX1 Braided Line Hi-Vis Yellow 16lb with out any leader... I use a "Dark Green Marker" on the line at 12" intervals and then fill in other the spaces with a "Black a Marker on the "Yellow Spaces" that are left. 1 Quote
Attila Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I shore fish and run straight 6lbs InvizX for drop shotting purposes. I've been using the VMC Spinshot hook which completely removes any line twist and will often fish with a 1/8oz ball shaped dropshot sinker as i'm in about 5-6ft of water most times. Quote

It's a lot easier to just color half the spool with the marker. I've done this in the past. Then you just marker up the last foot of line up to your bait. 1 Quote
Hot Rod Johnson Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Yes I do that also, it's much quicker and easier that way... I read a article a few years ago that was talking about how to camouflage the bright colored braided lines and he said to mark from the weight to 20 feet of line so that it isn't seen by the fish. 1 Quote

Just curious....why the leader when vertical and not when horizontal? Also, this question would be for anybody... Do you feel bass hold a drop shotted worm longer than other presentations? I use mono, I'm sure I miss bites, but with drop shots it seems less likely to miss them since there is a direct line to me, assuming very little slack. Just reading the comments and over thinking here.. Quote

Just reading the comments and over thinking here.. I use a leader for both. I just keep a tight line on the horiz. Use horizontal a lot in my reservoirs as there's not a lot of deep water. As said before, a heavier weight helps keep my line taught, though I do tend to use 1/8 oz a lot (got a mess of 'em). 1 Quote
punch Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I use 10 or 20lb power pro (usually 20) to a 8lb Invisx leader. I use it around toothy critters, like walleye and pike, so I tend to dropshot with a little heavier line than I would prefer. I usually use either a VMC neko hook or a owner 1/0 wacky/dropshot hook. Hot Rod Johnson Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 When "Vertical Dropshot Fishing" the weight is making constant contact with the bottom as much as possible... Such as in "Dead Sticking"... On a taunt line you can feel the "Pressure Bite" much better in my opinion... Using both "Fluorocarbon Line" and "Braided Line" you can feel much better when you have a light pressure bite... I tend to use this technique when I am fishing in water 20 feet or more... This is why I use Use both "Fluorocarbon Line" and "Braided Line"... Quote
McBass_Arkansas Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 I use 14lb braid (your choice of brand) and a Fluorocarbon leader about ten feet (your choice of brand) 6, 8 or 10 depending on the water clarity and cover I am fishing I try to go with the heaviest I can get away with and still get bites. I like my Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon but everyone has there preferences. God bless and good fishing Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted September 17, 2017 Super User Posted September 17, 2017 6 or 8# Invisix or Sniper. No braid with a leader garbage. Quote

Prettyboy reservoir? if its clear, use 8-10 lb braid and 6lb leader, more sensitive and durable, no line twist. Quote
