ThomasL Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Hopefully this will be a good thread with many answers, how is your tackle box laid out?Do you purchase certain lures on brand name, weight,or do you walk in a tackle store and whatever catches your eye you buy no matter who it is made by? I personnaly buy by brand, example, only use terminator and strike king premier spinnerbaits, topwater choices are heddon, spros prop20,minnow type baits by yozuri ,owner rippin minnows and bagleys bangolures.I know this limits me to certain baits but hell most of use probably need to rid ourselves of some tackle anyway and just start using and having CONFIDENCE in a lure more. : Quote
John J. Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Usually I walk in and buy what catches my eye. But when it comes down to spinner-baits, and worms I usually stick with one or two companies. For spinner-baits and buzz-baits I perfer BOOYAH!, for big worms that I will texas rig or whatever I usually stick with Culprit original worm 7"-7.5" in my favorite colors, when it comes to finesse worms I like ZOOM, and when it comes to stick baits to wacky I perfer YUM Dingers (for one dingers are cheaper than senkos). When it also comes to crankbaits I stick with Rapala. Everything else is a mix of different brands. As long as it catches fish, I get it! 8-) Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 owner rippin minnows ;D I love those. Nobody else I know uses them. I have never seen a better baby bass pattern ever. 8-) Other brands I love: Cranks: Bandit Footloose, 100, 200, and 300. Bagley Kill'r Bs, B2s, Fat Cats, Bang-Os Cultiva/Owner - Rippin Minnow, Tango Dancer, Goggle Eyes Rapala - DTs, X-Raps and Countdowns Soft Plastics: Zoom - Finesse and Trick Worms Wave Worms - Tikis, Bamboo Sticks, Snakes Lunker City - Sluggo, Helgies, Salad Spoon, Water Widow Charlies Worm - High Floater, Ribbon Tail Bass Assassin - Charm Assassin, Original Bass Assassin Jerk Others: Terminator Spinnerbaits Booyah Buzzbaits Mepps Fury Spinners #3 or 4 in Red Johnson Spoons - Nickle Finish all sizes. I have alot of other junk crammed in there, but these are the baits that I use most often and produce the best for me. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 14, 2007 Super User Posted June 14, 2007 Rather than experimenting with lures that look interesting, I have adopted a policy of buying ONLY lures that are HIGHLY recommended by BassResource.com members or fisherman that I know personally. All of my lures are organized in plastic boxes by lure class. In the case of jerkbaits, for example, I have one 3600 box in my tackle bag to actually use and seperate boxes kept in my fishing room for each brand: Smithwick Rogues, Lucky Craft Pointers, Rapala X-Raps and Husky Jerks. My "inventory" of soft plastics is in storage, for day-to-day use, one plastic box. Quote
Taliesin Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Well... It's my boat so I can take up all the room I want. Gamakatsu worm hooks and weights (any brand) from 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz. A VERY wide variety of baits to t-rig or c-rig (any brand and anything I think will catch fish). This takes up a small tacklebox by itself. The big tacklebox has: Spinners (including buzzbaits) of all shapes and sizes, but I won't spend more than $3 on one. I have caught a LOT of bass on $1 Wal-Mart spinners. Rooster-tails from 1/8 oz to 1 oz. This is one I buy by brand because other brands of in-line spinners don't work right for me. A little bit of variety in crankbaits (any brand, but I do prefer those brands that print the depth range on the box). Tiny Torpedoes, Super Spooks, and Jumpin' Minnows. Three more by brand. I've always been a fan of the Tiny Torpedoe and the other two entered my box for striper hybrids (and went on to catch black bass). Weedless frogs (any brand) Jig and Pig (any brand but Eakins is taking a lead) For my fishing during my lunch hour I have a little bit. A few Rooster Tails and spinners in the truck, with worm hooks, 3/16 oz weights and a couple of soft baits in my pocket (green pumpkin brush hogs right now). Frankly confidence isn't everything, but it does play a part. I have confidence in everything in my tacklebox, but they all have a best time and place. Quote
bassbob08 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I use waveworm, culprit worms and other soft plastic. But if im going to the store for somthing I want to try I find what im looking for and pic the size and color in the space that is allmost empty.Works for me at least I kind of know what might be working in that area.Kind of silly isnt it. : Quote

rdneckhntr Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 The only thing I really stick to brands with is hooks and plastics. My hooks are always gamakatsu and my plastics(especially worms and tubes) are zoom. Im confident in using them so they will always be in my box. Quote

Super User David P Posted June 15, 2007 Super User Posted June 15, 2007 I have a no name, plastic tackle box that's quite small and a plastic bag with other goodies inside. The box holds: 4 Bags of Zoom Super Flukes 3 Bags of *** Trick Sticks 1 Bag of zoom horny toads 1 chart/white spinnerbait 2 Top water frogs 4/0 and 5/0 hooks and some wacky rigging hooks That's it, yes it all fits, but barely.. The other 10 bags of baits that I carry on any trip are stuffed in a plastic bag.. Both the tackle box, and plastic bag, both go into my backpack (I fish from shore and this makes it easy!). Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 only lures that work or that are proven to work. Like RW, I dont go out anymore and buy stuff just to be buying lure. Yes I said it. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 15, 2007 Super User Posted June 15, 2007 When I purchase a lure, I purchase 2-3 so that I have most conditions covered. For instance, 1 model of crankbait in shad and in chart/black back. One style of worm in watermelon (clearer water) and junebug (stained water). Quote
Hawgin Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I am one of those people that believes there is a place for everything, and everything should be in it's place. I use the falcon tackle system so that each type of lure has it's own, neatly organized, easy to find place. I am also the type that only buys lures I know are productive for me. Strike king spinnerbaits, Strike king and Norman cranks, Lucky Craft and Rapala jerkbaits, Cordell super spot lipless cranks, Yamamoto/Zoom/Powerbait/Reaction Innovations for all plastics, Tru Tungsten weights, and until recently only Gammy hooks, but I'm switching over to all Owner hooks as I have to replace them.
