broncstomper Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I just found this site and am glad I did. I think you all are the crowd I've been hunting.(creative and knowledgeable). I just got a 1436 tracker jon boat and it has nothing. Now I have a 3 yr old son and one on the way so I don't want standing decks or anything fancy but i need a few things and my budget is low to nothing. I found a 9.9 johnson(haven't picked it up yet) and I have a 40lb minnkota. What I would like is to make some rod holders that can clamp on the side and be moved around. I also need an anchor( would also like to build that). I have a small trailer that came with a 10' jon and i have extended it but it needs runners and a winch. I would enjoy seeing pics of all ya'lls set ups. Thanks in advance. Quote
SteveFinMD Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Welcome to this site. Since you want to build everything yourself I can't be much help. I am a klutz when it come to do-it-yourself projects. :-[ Most of the items you mentiond are available at our local Walmart. They have the lowest prices that I have seen on most things so if you decide you want to git it done and get on the water check them out. Good luck with your project. Quote

Either rig some type of clamping system, or use twist ties, or other. I suggest just going to Lowes or Home Depot and walk around...you will get ideas just looking at different hardware, adapters, etc. Cheap Anchor- thats easy, just get decent sized rope, and anything heavy like a dumbell, cinder block, etc. Quote
ThomasL Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Got a good anchor idea for under 10 bucks. Take a plastic coke bottle with the screw cap,buy a 5 lb box of rockite concrete mix,one eyebolt around 4" long with two flat washers and two nuts. Mix rockite and pour in bottle, screw bolt through cap top first til the eye is flush with the cap top,now put one washer and nut to the halfway point on the bolt and the second one at the bottom.Drop the eyebolt down in the mixture and screw the cap on.The rockite will set overnight with the eyebolt holding strong, the plastic bottle is protection from marking up your boat. dampeoples Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I can help on the picture, and most of the stuff you're looking for is available at Wal-Mart, like has been said. Have fun! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 CLICK HERE to see how we did my 12' jon. We have Erics kids out on this boat a lot and it really has proven to be a great set up for us. The big benefit here is the floors. Eliminating tripping obstacles, keeping your stuff out of the floor water (from anchor, etc) and having a flat place to stand is huge, ehile still keeping the center of gravity low in the boat. Feel free to ask questions. (Erics boys are 5 and 6.5) Quote
broncstomper Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 man LBH What a great job, Mine is brand new and you got me wanting to paint it .judging by the lip on the seats you must have put wood over the factory benchs, Did you just screw it down. Same question for the floor, screwed into the ribs. I can't get over how great that looks. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 no,the floors are free floating, they just sit on the ribs. You can take them out and brush them off, nice and clean The boat is a 1964, if you look at the "before" pictures, the seats come with that lip. We are doing my buddy's boat in a few weeks and his has the "rolled over" edge (2004 g3 1236). We will be adding "starboard" (similar to the stuff Triton uses in replacement of wood) to create that lip so when it is carpeted, there will be a crush-proof, finished edge, like mine. I will be screwing it in with 8 wide bite stainless screws (countersunk) Then carpet over it and add seats (he just got same pedestals as me) Keep the questions coming, this is all easy stuff to do with basic tools and beginner skill Quote
