R1Peacock Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I've been looking to replace my prop on my Minn Kota Trolling Motor. Kipawa Props makes a replacement for my motor. The company claims that their props give more speed and power at reduced trolling motor settings and an increase in battery life. Has anyone ever used one of these props? I've read reviews and all are possitive except one that said it overheated the motor. Anyone have any experience with these props????? Thanks, Rich Westminster, Maryland 2004 Champion 198 Elite w/Yamaha 200HP VMAX Quote
DEISWERTH Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I just ordered one yesterday, the 358 model. I will let you know after I use it. One thing I do know is if your TM is still under warranty, it will void it. Mine is out, so I'm willing to take the chance based on what I've heard about them (my buddy has one, and like all the reviews, has nothing but good to say about them). Doug Quote
Travlin_Man Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I have been using one on my Gheenoe for about two years and I'll never go back to a stock prop. I fish a lot of "electric only" lakes and the Kipawa prop gives me a little more speed and is just as weedless or more so than the "weedless wedge" that is the standard prop on my M.K. My impression is that this product is designed for smaller lighter boats.Although I have no facts or figures, it seems like it has a slightly steeper pitch than a stock prop. This would explain the faster speed on a jonboat Gheenoe etc. Quote

Travlin_Man Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 M.K. Endura transom mount 44lb. thrust. I usually don't do the same run on any two consecative trips, however as far as battery life , I can fish five or six hours with no problem. This is with a Delco deep cycle battery that I bought in Oct. 1999. The Kipawa is a three blade prop vs. the oe. two blade It is just as durable as far as hitting wood etc. is concerned. Quote

Travlin_Man Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Sorry but I don't have a gps. The boat is powered by the MK trolling motor only. The long narrow shape gives me more speed and less wind resistance than a more beamy blunt nosed vessel. This and the extreme stability are the major reasons that I bought the boat in 1980. Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I have a Kipawa that I use on my trolling motors. It is a 358 it fits on my transom and bow mount. My transom mount is a 52LB thrust. I measured about a 1.5 MPH increase when I use it on my 12' v bottom . The biggest difference is in "hole shot". I accelerates a lot faster than the stock prop and a lot less vibration. It is also more weedless. On my bow mount 47LB thrust on my 16' v bottom I did not measure an increase in speed. Again, The acceleration in much better as well as vibration and weed resistance. Quote
Travlin_Man Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Guys , these props are not like buying a new ss unit for a 200 hp. in $. If you need a new tm prop buy one and see for yourself, not a lot of $$$. Quote

The 12' goes 5.25 MPH with the kipawa with 2 people and their stuff. Funny thing with the stock prop it would go that fast with one person with two it would only go 3.5 MPH. The kipawa gives me the 5.25 with one or two people. I guess it has more "bite" My 16' only goes 4 MPH the same it did with the stock prop. As I mentioned, The acceleration is much faster. Quote

IneedAnewScreenName-9872 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 this may be a little late but i just wanted to say that i have been using a kipiwa prop on my bass rig's 82# motorguide since before motorguide bought thier rights to package (hydrila hacker) It works GREAT. more power from same setting, less battery drain. But.......my motor burned up about 5 or 6 months after I began using it.Was it the Prop? My repair man says yes but I really don't trust him AT ALL. In fact he did a poor job for me twice, so I'm not sure bout his opinion. After the original burn out I had It rebuilt as a digital motor and put my Kipiwa right back on it and have had no other problems since, well with the motor anyways.(transducer interference has plagued me of recent)I definately recomend the prop for all uses, canoes to 22 ft bass rigs.I will advise though that you get a prop cover for high speed travel (trailering) as mine would free spin from the wind wich is VERY BAD for a trolling motor and it's batteries Quote
T_Dot Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 i just got a few props, and will be testing them out soon ill post my results as they come Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Just a quick note guys, something Glenn pointed out to me when I bought mine is that using this prop voids the warranty on the TM!!! If you ever have issues, be sure to put the old prop back on before bringing it to be serviced. Quote
