badbob Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Hi, My name is Bob and My wifes name is Donna we are 47 and 40 yrs old . We live in Fresno ca. I have spent the last 30 yrs Flyfishing. We have recently been doing alot of Bass fishing with "conventional gear". My wife loves it and it's fun. We have decided to purchase a boat for Bass fishing. I am not wanting to spend the farm on a new boat. I am looking real hard at the Tracker Pro Team 170 and 175. I was hoping someone could tell me a little about them if they have one? Also is there a ton of difference in a 25hp 4-stroke and a 40 or 50 4-stroke? I do not need to get across the lake in record time. The guy at the boat store said that the reason people get rid of there boat is that they got one too big or too small to begin with? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob Quote
HPBB Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 My father in law has the 175 and its a great boat to fish from. get the bigger motor, as long as the lake you fish can handle it. He has a 25hp on his, just because the lake he likes is 25hp limited, but he still wishes he would have gotten a bigger motor. You don't always need to run fast, but its always better to have more power than not enough. the 50hp will make that boat run better. If its in your price range look to see what it would cost with the 75hp. its better to power a boat at or need its hp limit than under power it, and the 175 limit is 75hp. just cause you have all the hp you don't need to use all of it, but when you need it, its nice to have. I would get the 175 over the 170 and the new 175w, wider ones is even more roomier. the bigger platform makes it nicer to fish from. they are easy to run, tow with a smaller truck/SUV and are easy to mantain. a glass boat is nice to, but I like the metal ones better. the difference between the 25 and 50 is easy, twice the power. don't get the 25 unless you fish limited lake. the 50 will run nice and make it a better boat when or if you decide to sell it. I would say most people get rid of their boat is because they don't get enough motor for it. they buy the cheep package that has the lowHP. its nice at first then they find out they need or want the extra HP and they get rid of it. Most of them would not get rid of their boat if they bought the bigger motor in the first place. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 16, 2007 Super User Posted April 16, 2007 When buying a new boat, always try and match the motor HP to the max HP of the boat. As stated, after the newness of the boat wears off, you'll start wishing you had that extra HP when you're boat has performance issues and I don't just mean top end speed. Then you'll want to trade that motor in for a bigger one (you'll take a bath financially on that) or you'll try and sell that boat to upgrade (under-horsepowered boats don't bring as much as those that aren't), Quote
HunteR Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 They are telling you by gospel. Im new to the board, My post "Help on a motor... I am taking my 1650 in for a new notor TODAY. It was affordable with the 9.9 and YES after the 6 weeks of newness I am ready for more Getty up! Only positive for me is that I am ending up at the 12 Grand they wanted for a 1756 W/50hp >> With a 1650 W/50HP and a kicker 9.9, so yesser if ya can swing the cash, buy a bigger motor now. I can go 60, but as stated, one of my Favorite lakes is a 50HP limit, and my MOST FAVORITE lake (COFFEEN) is 25HP limit, so Im still in there with my 9.9. Good Luck and Good Fishing! Hope ya find what ya want!!!! Quote
Garnet Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Well buddy when your wife picked you out. All your buddies said whats he want her for lets party on. Or her friends said what a dork she can do better than that. Picking boats it like pick partners what floats you boat. Buy the horse power and get a trailer thats 1 size bigger than nessary. Neogiate all toys this is the last time you will have any power at the dealership. Garnet Quote
