Soooo! Just stated using buzzbait the other day I picked up at Walmart , was a strike king 3/8 oz in red and black and man that thing got some fish! But I'm wondering now if there are any better or any tips? I just

purchased some from tackle warehouse hoping there good. I got some cavitron and some lure lunkers I believe.  Black and blues and whites. Anyone else have luck with them? Excited to try them out.

Cavitrons are good buzzbaits, you will be very pleased with them.  I like to crimp the rivet (to prevent it from turning, so that it's louder) and rough the rivet up with wire paper or something to make it noisier.

Great fall baits. Not only are they fish catchers, I've found I get more quality fish on them than many other topwaters.

I stick to basically black, or white and will add a trailer hook if they respond to a fast retrieve as I use braid. Along with the rivet modification, I like to bend the tip of one blade slightly in or out.  It puts the whole blade out of balance when it's running, giving it a different sound and vibration.

great lures.

-point rod tip directly at the buzzbait removing the rod from the equation, so ur just using reel, line and lure, and they bounce great over timber, through lily pad stalks etc (this also works with any lure you want to bump over cover).

-do a directional change as you're passing by ur target to get more strikes.  keep the rod on left side of body and when ur buzzbait approaches corner of a dock switch rod to right side of body.  it will pull lure 1-2ft right like it's fleeing bait (again works great with other lures).

-one buzzbait can catch hundreds of bass so replace with skirt rubber band with a cable/zip tie before you lose it.

-buy a file to keep hooks sharp.

-I like my buzzbaits running slow so i use a small drill bit to add holes.

-some guys swear by trailers but i don't bother with them anymore b/c i saw no added benefits and plenty of cons: they cost extra money when aren't necessary, make the lure roll over at higher speeds, and continually slip and/or require glue maintenance.

The recent wild west bass trail tournament at mead was won largely on the back of a buzz bait. Prop baits of different kinds are money in the heat and when there is a little wind chop going on the lake. It might just be me but they seem to have some good drawing power too, getting bass to commit from far away. One of my favorite topwater lures just because of how effective and simple they can be to use.

Yeah I got black, white, and then black and blue and white and reds , or black and reds to mix it up! Can't wait to try them out. And as stated above are the 3/8 oz the best size ? Wasn't sure

Buzzbaits are my favorite lures .Been fishing them hard since the late 70's .  Other lures catch more fish in the long run but nothing I have found , is funner than a buzzbait plus they catch bigger than average fish . I found that generic buzzbaits work just as well as more expensive ones  except for those horrible 1 dollar wal Mart specials . I make my own  , so I naturally think they are the best .   I use a lot of colors . Black , white , yellow , chartreuse ... they all work .

Easy  to fish , just cast and reel .Crimp the rivet so it doesnt spin to make the lure  squeal louder . I prefer a trailer hook most of the time . Be ready for the lure to just disappear . Big bass will often inhale it and the lure is just gone . I prefer 1/2 ounce models , simply because they cast the best on my equipment . I fish buzzbaits even on hot sunny days . They are fairly snag resistant and can  jump over laydowns . A lot of years my largest bass have come on a buzzbait .

Heres one of mine . Heavy wire with the stair step design like on the Cavitron . I didnt copy the Cavitron . One dark  night a few years back , I kept missing fish , so bent the wire to make it sit a little lower . It seemed to work , so I've been doing it ever since .

They are most people's favorite buzzbait, at least on these forums.  They are a close second for me, right behind accents finesse game changer.

I   use  Cavitrons , my only negative comment  is about thin wire . It has to be bent back into shape a lot . Other than that , they are excellent .

The Lunker Lure you have are great lures too . People are always seeking something newer and better but its hard to improve on the Original Lunker Lure .

Why are they so much

Posted

Hmmm -are Cavitrons no good- Watch and learn my friends-

Why are they so expensive- Well every one is made here in the USA -Made in America by Americans -not for a half a bowl of rice in some sweat shop- My blades are custom made and anodized in a separate facility- blade prices tripled in the last 10 years. Mustad Ultra points have doubled in price- lead has gone up-skirts have gone up-packaging has gone up -shipping has tripled in the last 8 years- My workers who assemble are making 14-15 dollars an hour- Workers comp-taxes insurance-- live in NJ where warehousing is twice as expensive as most states- packaging-cards-master cartons-free shipping to distributors and get beat the hell up for doing it-paid in 60 days if youre lucky-

HMM did I forget anything--Now ya know why companies go over seas and can sell buzzbaits for $3.99-

Think about it -we sell to distributors -they sell to dealers-they sell retail to fishermen- Back it off percentage wise and tell me what i make per buzzbait- Ya gotta be kidding me

Ok enough of the rant just go buy any buzzbait ya want -just go out and go fishing -life is short and so is Glenn

As some have said, squeeze rivet down and file the top of the rivet where it contacts the blade. The screechy ones are the best.

This time of year I run them without skirts and instead use some type off plastic (grub, half senko, creature bait, fluke).

I prefer the Booyah with the clacker cut off over any other. I don't know if it's the wire length or what, but I catch more quality fish on the Booyah than the rest (yes I have Cavitrons).

One of my favorite baits, along with the pompadaour, soft plastic toads, WP, etc. I love topwater fishing of any kind but especially baits that move fast on the surface. Buzzbait near sundown on active water is the best way to get new fishermen hooked on the sport, imo.
