It looks like we're gonna take a direct hit as she is now coming up the SW coast where we live. We're as safe as we can make it and just waiting for the hammer to fall. The wind is steady at about 20 with gusts a lot more and getting worse by the hour. They say we'll be in the eye wall about 2:00 and will be for hours as the wall is 80 miles wide. We're about 20 miles from the Gulf so the storrm surge won't be a factor for us but 130 mph winds are. My granddaughter has MS and has specialized equipment so we can't leave without a greater risk to her, so we've been advised to ride it out. Anyway thanks again, and to all my fellow Florida residents on here I wish you all the best. May God protect you and your family. We'll get through this..My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Mike stay safe my friend. we are thinking off all of you guys down there, here in Indiana, 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 11, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 11, 2017 Hey Fellas Well we made it through with minimal damage. It didn't start out that way. 5:00 yesterday Morning one of my daughters neighbors knocked frantically on our door saying that the electrical lines were on fire. Sure enough the wind was blowing the top of an oak tree on the main power line for the neighborhood. The line was sparking and embers were flying around on the street and on her front lawn. Mrs Mike called the power company who told her it was border line if anyone would come because the wind was picking up fast, and no one would be allowed out when the wind reached 40 mph. 20 min later an electrical truck came and said they "don't do trees, but would write it up" We kept an eye on it and when a big gust came the line started on fire. A 2ft flame was coming out of the line. It was smoking, so bad we could breathe. After a while the tree caught fire and burned the top off! but was still smoking. Anyway we're good but Still without power. It certainly could have been lot worse for sure. Thank You everyone for your kind thoughts, well wishes and prayers. You guys are the reason I'm a member here. Mike 4 Quote

Super User geo g Posted September 12, 2017 Super User Posted September 12, 2017 It was a bad one for sure. I have been through a lot of hurricanes over the last 40 years in south Florida. This thing was no joke. But at the same time it could have been a lot worse for everyone in Florida. The eye was off the coast of Naples and we on east coast were having hurricane winds for a steady 6 hours. The worst part were small tornados that formed in the out bands of the storm. They twisted the top of the trees and made a real mess and massive power outages. Power companies are doing an amazing job getting people back up as quick as possible. I want to thank everyone that sent prayers our way as the storm approached. I hope I don't go through this again for a long time. God bless everyone effected by this bad boy! 1 Quote
