Good hooks, they'll work well and tangle less.

VMC Short Shank #5's. I did some extensive testing this spring to find the perfect hook combination on my 1- lures.

My friend runs Mustad EWG's, #6 on the front, and a #4 on the back (to help with short strikes).

Thanks, @fishballer06 and @Bluebasser86.  I've tried 6/4 combos with mixed results.   I find it maddening that these lures are nearly unfishable out of the package.

Yep, when they changed the mold, they changed the hooks on them too. Even if the current hooks didn't foul up, they're so thin that they bend out in no time.

If you want a high quality lure that runs 6-12" deep, buy some of the Evergreen CR-1's. They'll run you $13 a pop, but they fish just as good (or better) than the 1- and they come with high quality hooks that don't foul up. I find that the circuit board lip on them rips through grass better too.

You are running the #5's on both front and back ? ... I like this idea for the 1- as a wake bait (i.e. not sure what a #6 up front and a #4 in the back does to the 1- action ?)

Interesting.... a friend of mine who fishes FLW tournaments recommended the Mann's Minus 1s. I got a light and dark set. I had problems with the hooks fouling and/or straightening. I figured I had a bad batch, so I got another set. Had the same issues with the second set even though they were a different color from the first set.

After that, I switch to some similar Yo-Zuri sized crankbaits with no hook issues. I still have the 4 Mann's Baby Minus 1s, so maybe it is time to try changing out the hooks. It looks like the local Orlando has a very limited stock of the Owners. Is there a comparable Gammy treble in case they don't have enough Owner treble hooks?

Thanks!!!

See my earlier post. VMC Short Shank #5's for both is the ticket.

Unfortunately, Basspro doesn't carry as size 5, only 4 and 6. Neither the 4 or 6 are in stock, so I was looking for alternatives like Gammies which are in stock.

Sounds like you need to shop somewhere besides BPS.

When I change hooks on the Mann's crank I go up one size on the rear hook. I did put a red hook on the rear.
