Largemouth21 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 yes I get it's few months away, but who else is ready. Food plots have been planted (in August) and already I'm seeing tracks. Maybe time to break out the trail cams Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 I love deer season ~ All the lakes are completely empty and I have the water all to myself. Just have to remember to keep my head down A-Jay 3 Quote

Russ E Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 archery season starts here September 11, but I don't really get too excited until the leaves start falling. I would rather fish in hot weather than hunt. Plus In my zone I can hunt through January. 1 Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted September 5, 2017 Super User Posted September 5, 2017 I do love a bit of venison....but I do LOVE the quietness on the water this time of year till March. Lots of things to pull people off the water....schools back, football, hunting, raking leaves.....oh...and hard water. 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted September 6, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 6, 2017 Getting ready to set out the trail cams. I haven't bow hunted in years because of work. If I don't have the time to practice before Oct. 1 I will not go. I see too many deer get wounded or wasted because people shoot a couple times the day before and call it good. I don't see a whole lot of action before Halloween anyways. Like A-Jay and Oregon Native I hang out on the lake. Come rifle season my 7 year old and I are in the woods. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted September 6, 2017 Super User Posted September 6, 2017 I haven't touched my bow in a couple years and my shotgun is clean and cased from last season. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 7, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2017 Been watching the deer behind out house all year. Had a bachelor group with 1 nice one and one stud by our pond a couple months ago. The grass is too tall to see very well now, but I set the feeder up and put out 2 blocks by my salt lick that's pretty worn down from being out all summer next to the food plot. Got a buddy whose boy is going to try for his first deer on our place this year, shouldn't be a problem. I have a couple picked out for him, I think this little guy would be a great first deer. This is one of the decent ones I got a picture of this summer. There's a much bigger deer behind him in the next picture, but it's really hard to make out. I had a better picture of him and lost it somehow. 1 Quote

Thank you, lots of deer have been shot by my family members with scars/wounds from bowhunters. And while I do (crossbow) hunt, (I cant shoot a compound well enough to ethically hunt) I think it's definitely important to practice, practice, practice. I am an avid rifle hunter also, good luck to you and your son 1 Quote

Cross bows are like guns shoot a couple times and your good. Good luck to you as well. Hoping to get one this year. Our property and the surrounding ones took a major hit a few years ago when the fly disease went through. My step dad got 2 nice ones last year. Quote
ohboyitsrobby Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 A little less than 2 weeks away here in Arkansas. I'm pretty pumped up. I love the fall between hunting on the weekend and having an empty lake the rest of the time what more could a man ask for. 1 Quote

Technically mountain lions are like unicorns in Arkansas they don't exist. Even though I've seen them personally and on camera. Those eyes in this picture though are a smaller buck luckily. 1 Quote

Clinton john Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Yep those are some nice bucks. I wish I could use trail cameras where I hunt but they would just get stole again. Dang game wardens are the worse theif's in the woods around my house. 1 Quote

Whatever happened to respecting someone else's property. I don't know if anything in life bothers me more than working my a** off to get something then someone just taking it. 1 Quote

Clinton john Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Yea that would work, but I would rather just keep my cash and not lose any more cameras. What I do know is scout old school boots on the ground and time in the woods tracking sign and reading trails, and keeping a journal of where I find sign and where I see deer and what kind of deer I see. That's why i kill every year on that wma and most people don't even get a shot all season, but it takes along walk every day to get to where I hunt lol. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 12, 2017 Super User Posted September 12, 2017 I'm more anxious for ducks and predators then I am deer. Got a new coyote gun this year and a new boat for diver hunting the big lake. 1 Quote
Loomis13 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 So ready for deer season. While it has opened here in Iowa, I wont be out until Nov. I am working a lot on the weekends right now so when November comes I can have some time off to hunt the rut. Doesn't hurt my feelings too much not being out there right now as the weather is pretty warm still and a lot of crops are still in. Good luck to everyone this season! 1 Quote
