CTBassin860 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 How many of you have Shimano reels on Daiwa rods or Daiwa reels on Shimano rods?? We all know many of us have a line drawn in that sand, how many of you cross it? Quote
npl_texas Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I don't but it's only because I'm weird and OCD. I'm actually only down to one Daiwa rod (the rest are Dobyn's) but I won't put anything but a Daiwa reel on it. To provide more context I won't wear Nike and Under Armour at the same time. It's one or the other. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 3, 2017 Super User Posted September 3, 2017 Does G. Loomis owned by Shimano count? I have a original Daiwa Fuego on a Loomis PRC845C rod. Tom 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted September 3, 2017 Super User Posted September 3, 2017 I have a few that have crossed the lines. Not a big deal to me. My favorite is an Alphas SV 105 on a Cumulus rod. 1 Quote
Big-Bass Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I want to try an SV105 with the red accents on my Poison Adrena rod but I don't know if I can...for now my Scorpion 1000XT is on it! Quote
CTBassin860 Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 I ask because I finally got my hands on the new Curado 200k. Would pair well with my Mojo but look really sweet on the Tatula rod. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted September 3, 2017 Super User Posted September 3, 2017 Why matter, it just a reel and a rod? If you like shimano reel and daiwa rod I say go for it. 2 Quote

That is just wrong! 1 Quote

RPreeb Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I have a Tatula on an Ugly Stik, so I guess I'm not too concerned about mixing and matching. But then I'm still just trying to get a handle on this modern age bass fishing stuff, so what do I know? Quote
Dtrombly Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Doesn't bother me, my three main combos are mix-and-matched. Daiwa reel on an Irod, Daiwa reel on an Abu rod, Lews reel on a BPS rod Quote
Yumeya Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Shimano with megabass rod???? Closest to anything Daiwa I have. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 I have a bunch of Crucial's that have Daiwa reels on them. Been fishing them many years. But...I have a new interest in the Tatula rods so who knows what's going to happen there. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 Well, technically GLoomis rods are "Shimano" since Shimano owns GLoomis, so since most of my rods are GLoomis then I play the Daiwa on "Shimano" rods when I fish with my Daiwa reels..... but, my GLoomis rods were purchased when Shimano didn't own GLoomis so now I'm confused if I'm really doing the Daiwa reel on a "Shimano" rod. Hulkster Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 putting a shimano reel on a daiwa rod is like farting in an elevator. its wrong on so many levels Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 I can't do it. I can not put a different brand reel on a rod from a company that offers both rods + reels. For example all my Abu reels are on Abu, or custom built rods. All my Pflueger reels are on Fenwick or Custom built rods. All my Daiwa reels are on Daiwa, or custom built rods. The Plueger's will never go on Abu or Daiwa rods, the Daiwa's will never go on Abu or Fenwick rods, and the Abu's will never go on Daiwa or Fenwick rods. When I used Shimano reels, they were always on Shimano or St Croix rods. I once put a Curado 51E on an Abu Veritas, and it felt dirty, and strange to me. I fished with it for a day or two, and took it off, put it back on a St Croix, and ordered a Revo for the Veritas. I also can not have a black and red reel on any other color but a black and red rod. For example, all my Vendetta rods sport Revo SX's or Black Max reels. I also will NOT buy white reels like the Revo S, but I will put a black reel on a white rod, as long as it doesn't have any red in it. I am fine with putting any other color reel on any other color rod....it's just that black and red, have to be with black and red. I wish I was kidding. But I am not. I should seek help LOL. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 Had a Stradic FJ on a Tatula rod for a long time, though I recently swapped it out for a *** ***, just to try it out. Also have a Fuego 1000A on a Shimano Clarus UL rod. I don't care about brand loyalty or anything of the sort, because none of the manufacturers pay me or give me equipment. Quote
