Or, as with the SEC, has a favorite in football (Bamasux), basketball (Kensucky) and baseball (LSU). Then there is always Tennessee for women's basketball and South Carolina for softball. So any person affiliated with the SEC will push for an SEC team to get into the playoffs. Not wanting to make enemies, the others on the committee follow the SEC's lead which is easier than making enemies of some powerful college sports people. This is why Bamasux got in. Does Bamasux deserve to get in? Not really. I would have thought a Big Ten school should have been invited. But this will be another all SEC championship game and I predict that some changes may be made to how the committee makes the final selections. That is if the SEC allows it. Happy New Year! I'm associated with the SEC and I (respectfully) hate all the schools in the conference except my own. Every time a rival makes the playoffs it helps us absolutely none. Zero. Zilch. "Conference pride" is when fans of a crappy team want to latch on to a winning team. It's a sellout Quote

But remember, we are talking about a committee of people who know each other and will support their friends if their favorite teams are eliminated from contention. What is fun is the "SEC SEC SEC" chant at the end of the games when the SEC teams win. At least Awbunn fans can celebrate no matter which teams wins or loses! They can't stand either Bamasux or Jajaw. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 4, 2018 Super User Posted January 4, 2018 I'm ok with calling UCF No. 1...sure the argument about beating the only team to beat the top two is thin...hard to argue the undefeated aspect....I'm liking it and won't argue when they say they've got a case Quote

It's a sellout There are benefits in having a team in your conference in the playoffs. The conference gets paid for their appearance which is divided among the schools in the conference. Last year the SEC got $6 mil for Bama in the playoffs and paid again for the NC game. That was over $1 mil to lowly UT. It also helps with recruiting. It's a good selling point to tell kids they'll be facing Bama and guaranteed national tv time. Quote

Sec teams have been playing for the title every year for a decade and it has been the worst decade in a century for "lowly" TN. $1 million is less than a drop in a bucket, we have a $350 million dollar stadium renovation coming up. When kids watch bama playing for a title they want to go to bama, not TN. Ask your newest recruit Cade mays if it helped TN in recruiting this year Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 5, 2018 Super User Posted January 5, 2018 I wouldn't cheer for the Pokes or the Shorthorns if they were playing North Korea. I would want both teams to lose. I will never understand rooting for your conference. I want the other teams in the conference to lose so the top recruits will want to come to the team I root for. But I guess for some teams who know they will never experience the success it makes them feel better for their conference to win. Charles Barkley said tonight that there is no way in he** he would ever cheer for bama. Quote

It's a million more than you would have had otherwise. You have to see it as Neyland stadium is half full not half empty. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 5, 2018 Global Moderator Posted January 5, 2018 it ain't just me. Read what @jbsoonerfan just said. If you want to root for your teams rivals that's fine but it ain't for me. Neyland is full when we win and half empty when we lose. We lose when our rivals are winning national titles and getting all the recruits. Do you even know who Cade mays is ? They can squeeze $1 million out a booster anytime they need it. They offered mike gundy $45 million. Were you wearing a gators hat when tebow was playing? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 8, 2018 Super User Posted January 8, 2018 Spent most of my life as a die-hard Big 8 fan, but when Missouri joined the SEC that all changed. I am a Mizzou-rah! fan first, SEC second. We share revenues so every team's success is spread around the conference to some extent. It looks like there is a pretty good chance a SEC team will win the National Championship tonight. 1 1 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 9, 2018 Super User Posted January 9, 2018 Roadwarrior is it wrong for me to hope Georgia shuts out Alabama and beats them by 35? 13-0 at the half! That's a good start. Quote

That's a good start. Not so fast, K_Mac. With the refs missing the two Bamasux calls it looks like they will be earning their money in the second half from the Bamasux supporters. Stay tuned. Remember, LSU was down by 20 against Awbunn and came back to outscore the War Eagles/Tigers/Plainsmen/Whatevers 27 to 3 in the second half. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 9, 2018 Super User Posted January 9, 2018 You must be a prophet Sam. A facemask call that wasn't made gave Alabama the ball.... Now it's a brand new game. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted January 16, 2018 Super User Posted January 16, 2018 I was never a devoted sports fan but I like college sports it’s growing on me. These kids play there hearts out. Quote

Welcome to the fun and excitement of college sports. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted January 17, 2018 Super User Posted January 17, 2018 Well when I was working two and three jobs I never had to to watch sports. Now that I’m retired I have more time. I never sat and watched the super bowl too. I was busy working in the garage with a ear on the tv. march madness is next. Quote

That right there is where you will literally see kids pour their heart and soul into the game. Not that they don't in football, it is just visually more obvious during the tourney. Quote
