Only way in for them was to beat Georgia in the championship They were 3 spots ahead of Bama in last weeks Playoff. How would Bama have jumped them if neither of them played? Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 3, 2017 Global Moderator Posted December 3, 2017 I don't think they would take a 2 loss team that wasn't a conference champ. Wisconsin is a 1 loss team that's not a conference champ. Also southern cal has 2 losses and IS conference champ Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 3, 2017 Super User Posted December 3, 2017 I guess you don't understand what I am saying. Auburn was ahead of Bama last week, so if there wasn't a conf championship game (what the committee claims is important) then Auburn would have been in. Bama played 1 good SEC team and got beat. Auburn beat Georgia, Bama and only lost by 8 at #1 Clemson. Auburn proved they are better than Bama on the field. Apparantly head to head or conf championship games mean nothing to the committee. There shouldn't even be a ranking system if they are only going to go by who they think is better than who. Likewise, a 2 loss Ohio St team won their conf and got left out and a 2 loss USC team who also won their conf and gets left out. If Bama would have played, they more than likely would have got beat. All I am saying is the committee is a joke!!! 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 4, 2017 Super User Posted December 4, 2017 The committee looked at the entire season and Ohio State got clobbered twice, once by the Sooners and then by the Hawkeyes. Bamasux lost only one game to a very good Awbunn team while they were still beat up from the LSU game. The down side is Bamasux's non-conference schedule that is a joke other than for a weak FSU team. The committee is alerting everyone that you don't have to be a conference champion to get into the playoffs. I personally don't like it, but I am not on the committee. Can't wait to see the point spreads. That Georgia-Oklahoma game will be a great one and the third game between Bamasux and Clepson should be fun. In other news, the LSU Fighting Tigers will be playing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the 12th time on New Year's Day. As usual, throw out the records and sit back for some hard hitting football. Its the Louisiana Catholics against the Northern Catholics. Geaux Tigers! 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 4, 2017 Super User Posted December 4, 2017 Georgia played the weakest schedule of the 4 As I said LSU exposed Bama's weaknesses Clemson vs OU for all the marbles ? Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 4, 2017 Super User Posted December 4, 2017 This is bad for college football. Bama is rewarded for playing a cupcake non-con schedule, not winning their division and not winning a conf championship. What does that tell teams going forward? If Ohio St would have played Akron instead of OU and USC would have played San Diego St instead of ND then they would be in. But, we have been told (lied to) that conf championships and sos are weighed heavily in the committee's decision. That's not what happened this year. We have also been told that wins are more important than losses. But apparently that's not the case either. The system is flawed and until there is an actual legitimate system in place (not a bunch of idiots who decide who gets in) then it will never be right. NCAA Div 1 football is the only sport in which there isn't an actual playoff where you are eliminated by losing and advance by winning. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 4, 2017 Super User Posted December 4, 2017 Well, there is always going to be some disappointment when only four teams are chosen. No doubt there are legitimate arguments about who the top four teams are going to be. Ohio State fans have every right to complain, but there are others with a strong case of their own. I'm not an alumni or die hard Tide fan, but I think they are the best team in the country and will win the National Championship. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 4, 2017 Global Moderator Posted December 4, 2017 Nobody hates bama more than me outside of the town of auburn but bama didn't lose to Iowa by 31. They also lost one less game than Ohio st and although their non conference schedule appears weak now, don't forget Florida st was a top 5 team when they played. In fact when that game was scheduled, I would guess that Florida st was defending national champions. I will always be of the opinion that you might as well play as many hard games as you can, i would be much more proud of a national championship against a tough schedule than a national championship against a schedule like Wisconsin played this season. 1 Quote

Which is why I don't believe in ranking em early...ya aint played nobody yet! 5 confidence champions, 2 wildcards, & UCF type team. Quote

Exactly, there shouldn't even be a ranking for the first 4-5 weeks. FSU lost 5 games, that W doesn't mean anything at this point. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 2, 2018 Super User Posted January 2, 2018 Chokelahoma is back. I told you they couldn't win a playoff game. Awful to watch them on big games. Quote
tander Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I not a Bulldog fan or Sooner fan, but that is one of the best games I have seen in a long time. 1 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 2, 2018 Super User Posted January 2, 2018 Hmmmmmmm. Who to root for as a Gator ? It's hard to root for GA. because their our biggest rival ( besides state ) I refuse to root for Bama because theyve won so many championships already. Their fans are pretty cocky ( which would happen to any fan base with as many wins as them.) I like Kirby Smart. I do not care for Nick Saban. That freshman Ga. QB is really good for his age. I have quite a few friends that are Georgia fans, and they are all good folks. I don't think I have 1 Alabama fan friend. Edge : Georgia. 1 Quote

All I am saying is the committee is a joke!!! JB, the committee is like congress: a good ole boys club made of up athletic directors and others who know each other and hold grudges against schools, coaches or players. Or, as with the SEC, has a favorite in football (Bamasux), basketball (Kensucky) and baseball (LSU). Then there is always Tennessee for women's basketball and South Carolina for softball. So any person affiliated with the SEC will push for an SEC team to get into the playoffs. Not wanting to make enemies, the others on the committee follow the SEC's lead which is easier than making enemies of some powerful college sports people. This is why Bamasux got in. Does Bamasux deserve to get in? Not really. I would have thought a Big Ten school should have been invited. But this will be another all SEC championship game and I predict that some changes may be made to how the committee makes the final selections. That is if the SEC allows it. Happy New Year! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 3, 2018 Super User Posted January 3, 2018 C'mon man... Bama was ranked #1 most of the year and I think they will be the National Champion, but without question at least #2. The Tide and more specifically Nick Saban is everything college football is all about. Who was Bear Bryant? Quote
