JT Bagwell Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 So today I did another one of my jersey giveaways on my Instagram account. I think this was either the 3rd or 4th one. Normally people think its cool when they win a jersey. They say thanks a few times and we move on with life. Well today I replied to the contest post and told the winner to send me his address via a private message. About 7 or 8 hours later the person messages me the address. I say ok cool, I also need the name because all I know is a screen name. They give me that as well. A few minutes later they start asking if this is a scam contest and was I really going to send the jersey. To which I ask why I would be wasting my time getting the shipping information if I wasn't going to send them something? He then tells me that it is a little "stalker like" that I asked for his address. I said how else would I get the jersey from IL to TX if I didn't have a shipping address? Then I tell him that it won't ship until Tuesday since it was already to late in the day today and Monday is a holiday. He then says "This must be a scam" I am backing out of the contest and you have to find another winner. Keep in mind that this person followed me on Instagram and willingly did what was required to enter the contest on his own. It was just a very strange exchange of messages to say the least. lol I was a little puzzled for a while. Anyway, have a good weekend everyone. Quote
CroakHunter Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Definitely sounds like an odd duck lol You can send that jersey from Illinois to indiana, I don't mind to wait til Tuesday for it to ship lol 1 Quote
Ktho Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Some people are just flat out weird. I worked at a pizza delivery place in high school. A person did the same thing one day, called in an order for delivery and when I asked for the address they were like "why do you want to know where I live? I'm not telling you my address" Strange people. Hopefully it all worked out for you in the end. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 2, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2017 I get to meet the weirdest of the weird while on duty (and some on the water). Most of them are people that can't help it. The ones that are really odd to me are the ones like what you experienced, those that willingly put themselves in situations they obviously aren't comfortable with. 1 Quote

JT Bagwell Posted September 2, 2017 Author Posted September 2, 2017 I ended up just choosing someone else to give it to. Seemed more happy to get it. 1 Quote
frosty Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I deliver dumpsters for people and a lot of them want us to call to find out where to put it, but probably 3/4 of the people we call won't answer, then won't call back. These are scheduled a few days in advance so it's not like it's a surprise. They usually call later wanting us to drive back and put the dumpster where they wanted it but wouldn't answer the phone to tell us 1 1 Quote

I hope you just sat there eating his pizza wondering if the guy is angered by why you haven't shown up yet. 1 Quote
XpressJeff Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Weird or just paranoid? I hate to stereotype but those who understand the least about information sharing and web related commerce are the most skeptical. Those who have the least are probably the most protective of the little they have. Don't take that wrong please! 2 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 9, 2017 Super User Posted September 9, 2017 He's paranoid. He probably reads about all the scams being done lately he trusts no one. i purchase dirtbike parts online. From vintage dirtbike sights and eBay. I haven't been scammed yet in a decade of doing this. Some sellers I find slow on shipping or a holiday is involved but I always receive my parts. I do buy parts from all over the world too. Im on a vintage dirtbike forum. We have posters from all over the world. We talk about bikes, parts. It's cool. Funny too, I play the word games. I say hi and some won't talk. There afraid to talk. I like to see where they live just for ha has. My farthest player is in England. That's cool. my point is everyone is different. 1 Quote
