Anybody ever dump their entire "main" arsenal then start over with a new brand or just upgraded in general within a season. Just curious.

I'm in the process of doing this now, just upgrading to higher end gear.

About to do that after my last tourney Next weekend. Will keep a few of my favorites to get me through the winter, but besides those 3 I will hopefully be upgrading and condensing early this spring.

Yep I'm in the process as we speak, I'm about halfway done now. Plus I'm adding more so it's becoming real expensive but it's worth it.

Never a bad idea to sell any equipment you want to upgrade or change, especially if you do it at the right time of year when you can get deals.

If you like your reels, rods, and lures, you will catch more fish and have more fun. If you feel a certain reel will give you an edge, then it most likely will.

Minimizing tackle and selling what you don't use in a years time has really helped me out. Less is so much better when on the water, but hard to accomplish. Colors, size....hard to condense.

I quit fishing for 23 years.  When I decided to start again I wanted to try a baitcast reel.  I didn't have all that many rods and reels.  There is only one previous spinning combo still in use.  Everything else is an upgrade including the new and new-to-me spinning combos.  However, I've never dumped gear to upgrade in the 8 years since then.  Just kept adding to existing gear.

I would never dump over and start again. For one I am not sponsored nor will I ever be as I dont fish competently or for YouTube viewers. For two, many of the rods I value so much are discontinued or custom. Finding them or building them again should I not like my "new" rods would be tough and costly.

I add new rods and we'll rods occasionally but usually a few things a year. Not as much as the guys always buying and selling gear.

I did. 4 times or something like that.

I worked for Bass Pro around 2005 and had all their rods/reels minus the Johnny Morris Series of rods. Gave all to my dad after I started working at Cabela's in 2008. I had a mix of their Prodigy, Mag Touch, and Fish Eagle rods. No XML's. I had all Prodigy baitcasters and spinning reels. After that I switched over to Daiwa S and Light & Tough rods and started adding Zillions, Sols, and Fuegos. I had an Daiwa Ike Sig. Rod and a Steez. Then I added St. Croix Mojo, Rage, Legend Tournament, Elite and Extreme. Added some Tierra's and Advantage's.

For some reason I thought I had too many rods so I sold everything and bought 6 Megabass rods. Four X4's and 2 XX's. Reels with those rods were Pixy, PXR, Steez, Zillion 50th, IP79, Emeraldas, and then what seemed like a different reel every month.

One of the X4's was the Destruction. It was one bad stick, but I didn't love it for frogging and I broke it punching. So I bought 2 Irod's. Fred's Magic Stick for frogging and Bub's Punch Rod. I had too high end of gear for ME (my personal opinion) and was too worried about scratching reels and how my rods were laying in the boat or truck, I knew I needed a change. After dealing with Matt Newman a couple times I decided to sell all my high end gear and bought A few more Irod's and used Zillions, Pixies/PXR (hard to let go), and new Tatula Ct's. I then became an Irod Pro Staff member and now own an arrangement of Fibers, Genesis 2s, and Crushers.

I am very happy with Irod. My next couple I buy are going to be Air's. I fully believe that all rods are created different and appreciate how the high end gear feels on the water, but I have to say that i have caught more fish over the last year with my Irod's than any of the others. In any season. That being said my father in law uses the "can't mention their name" rod brand and does very well. And other guys in my club and league do very well using everything from Scheel's specials to NRX's. To each his own.

I did that after divorce 30 years ago. That's the only time I could afford it!

Ouch, I get a severe pain in my right hip just thinking about that now!

Enjoy!

I have with both rods and reels. Moved from Daiwa reels to Shimano and St. Croix to Loomis. Still have some SC spinning rods cause they're just solid.

Most of my rods and reels are pretty dated but when I got them they were top of the line and have taken care of them so they are still in good shape and catching fish.  Would be nice to upgrade all my shimano's but at my age it probably ain't gunna happen.

I think I'm deciding to replace some of my revo gen 3 baitcasters with 4's. I like the look better. Try them out see how they perform.

I would not dump my entire arsenal just to start over. I have had everything from lightning rods, to bps extremes, to St. Croix legend tournaments. Reels are a similar deal. I'm 29 now, started buying B series curados when I was working farm jobs at 14...I'm still using them. They are about all I use. I have D series citicas, one E citica and one E curado. The B's are still my favorite. I recently got a Abu black max for the heck of it, I like the value of it and feel, it casts as well as anything I've ever used, although I don't expect it to last as long as my greenies. BPS extremes, most pflugers, a majority, are a 5 year reel if you fish 100 plus day per year. There's no right or wrong and no best, that's subjective to the user and "needs". I used to have 14 rods in the locker of my Ranger, too much for my 18 footer. I now keep 6. I am down to about 8 reels total and I believe 21 rods, I only ever rig 6 at a time. I need to take some time and cull some rods, many of them are tired anyway. Just use what feels good, become efficient with it, and go fishing. I agree with prime time.
