Bassin' Brad Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I got this lure a while back when I ordered some stuff off of eBay from an individual. The package it came in looked old and the name on it said "doppelganger" I tried to look them up but wasn't really successful. Anyways if anyone could shed some light on it that would be appreciated. And how you would fish it. Thanks! Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted August 31, 2017 Super User Posted August 31, 2017 Looks like a store brand swimbait. I would venture to guess Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops. Not 100% sure 2 Quote

The realimage Cabelas jointed swimbaits look near identical but the color is not close to that unless it was a discontinued color. Could be BPS or maybe an Academy sports brand bait as well. I have something similar in a pumpkinseed color that was a Cabelas bait. Tossed it once, but it liked to helicopter on the cast. Didn't throw it since. Quote

And how you would fish it. Thanks! After a little searching looks like a lure a California company was selling around 2010 or so. Cant seem to find any recent info on them so they may have went belly up. A couple of links to online auctions have the same type of bio info for that company Up for auction is (2) Doppelganger swimbaits. The winning bidder will receive one SHAD and one CRAPPIE Doppelganger. However, if you would like two of either color instead, contact me through eBay messaging, tell me your choice, and I will fill your request accordingly. Size: 4” (10.15cm) Weight: 7/10oz (19.8g) Sink Rate: aproximately 1’ per second Action: swims like a fish, with medium to fast retrieve GR8LAKE was the first lure company to introduce a lure of this design in the United States. We believe you will find that the quality of the Doppelganger is equal to that of some of the best lure manufacturers in the business. GR8LAKE is a company dependant on the quality of the Clear Lake California fishery. For this reason, we donate fifty cents from every Doppelganger sold, to the County of Lake, for "BioHaven floating islands". 1 Quote
Bassin' Brad Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 Thanks BassNJake that's it! I remember now that's what the company was called but when I had looked them up sometime back I couldn't find any info on them. I since threw away the package so couldn't remember the details. So has anyone had any experience with this company's swimbait? Quote
primetime Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I believe a guy was selling them on Ebay a few years ago under the name Kanin Relic, but there are many swimbaits that are identical if you visit ali express or Ebay. Cabela's had an identical swimbait and another smaller company who has a wholesale page on Alibaba sells those same one's. Many on the market at that time were coming from the same OEM which has about 300 models you can choose from with really good prices if you buy a 200 minimum. They were huge sellers on Ebay a few years back and may be today, although you can buy 5 for $20 or so overseas with any amount of joints, color etc. I feel like they are not as popular as they were a few years ago when people couldnt get enough of the segmented swimbaits. Academy had a bunch like that as well, they still may, really inexpensive as well for the quality. Academy lures are almost all much better than their price point, Cabela's as well in many cases. The one pic is almost identical to one of the cabela's models which they sold up until last year for $7 or so. Reviews were always good if I remember, Reaction Strike & Strike Pro used to have a bunch as well. The name of the company who sells a bunch of swimbaits very similar if not identical is called Raw Outdoors. I believe he still has a website and sells them in the USA. www.rawoutdoorsinc.com/baby-carp-2-slow-sinking-bluegill-swimbait-3/ I am sure they catch fish. Good luck. 1 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted September 1, 2017 Super User Posted September 1, 2017 Pretty sure, like has been mentioned, they are generic bodies from china, repainted by whomever buys them, then resold. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Yes Chinese bait. Imported cheap and resold. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted September 1, 2017 Super User Posted September 1, 2017 Check Alibaba.com and you will find all you want. Allen Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 2, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2017 The joints are fragile, so don't go catching too big of fish on one. Quote
