thebillsman Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Hey, just looking for some clarification on the differences between the USDM Tatula SV and it's JDM counterpart. I am aware that the JDM variant has an 80mm handle with I-style knobs, a gold T-Wing (same material?), a non-Zaion plastic drag star, a bit less drag and one less bearing. I don't know which bearing Daiwa chose to omit but I'm very curious. I also read that the JDM SV has higher quality bearings, but that is not confirmed. Can anyone shed some light on this? Are more people opting for the US version? Quote
thebillsman Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 Well an email to Daiwa was useless.. unable to attest to the JDM specs. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Other than the handle length, I bet you can't tell the difference between the two when you're fishing. Just buy one or the other and go fishing. Quote

I want to get levelwind/worm gear bearings added to both in the offseason, along with the missing bearing in the JDM reel. However, no one can help me find out which I'm missing. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Look at the schematics in the box, you will be able to track down the extra bearing. Quote
Super User webertime Posted August 30, 2017 Super User Posted August 30, 2017 One bearing? dollars to donuts it's under the drive shaft. Quote

I went through mine today after work and both have 5 traditional ball bearings. So, that means it's either missing a corrosion resistant bearing (USDM has 2) or the roller bearing. Oh well, I'll just send them to @Delaware Valley Tackle and let them figure it out. MOOREE BEARINGSSS. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 31, 2017 Super User Posted August 31, 2017 The difference between ABEC bearings is tolerances and spin rates. No fishing on the planet earth benefits from a ABEC bearing higher than 5. Tom PS, ABEC rating doesn't insure quality of materials used. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Good bearings in a few key spots is far more meaningful than bearing count. The Core is a good example and one of the smoothest, best casting reels I've handled. Quote
