I was looking through the B.A.S.S. Opens points race. I noticed Scott Martin is in 10th place for the Southern Opens. Is he trying to earn a spot on the Elite tour? I don't pay too much attention to the FLW tour so I don't know if this has been discussed.

It would be interesting if he qualified and fished the Elites. I've always wondered how he'd do. Probably the biggest name on the FLW coming over to the Elites, we'll see.

Lots of the FLW guys fish the BASS Open events that are local to them whenever their schedules allow it (same even goes with the BASS professionals as well). Winning an Open event qualifies you to fish the Bassmaster Classic. Plus, you can win some money while doing it and it could be good practice if it's a body of water that your circuit fishes.

But to touch on your point, yes, these can be a gateway into BASS Elite's for the FLW guys. Lots of big names from the FLW Tour have jumped over the Elites in recent years (Wheeler, Daniels Jr, Lefebre, etc, etc).

I think Martin is just looking for that Classic berth.  I would be surprised if he left the FLW.  There are only like 20 - 30 REALLY good FLW pros on tour vs. about 80 in the Elites.  He, and 10 other guys are basically making all the money in the FLW.  Why leave that?  I also imagine he might have some sponsorship deals that require him to stay FLW specific.  I think Mark Rose qualified for the elites thru the 2016 Opens but declined.  My guess is the former sentence had something to do with that.

I knew the Opens were how they qualified for the Elites I just wasn't sure if Martin finally decided to move in that direction. At one point this year the majority of the top 10 in the AOY were guys who came over from the FLW. There are still quite a few now.

I wouldn't blame him for not coming over to the Elites. He's making a pretty good living for himself where he is. It would be interesting to see him in the classic or on MLF. I wonder why he doesn't do the MLF?

I've always wanted to see 12 man MLF field. A 6 man Round one with 3 Bass Pros and 3 FLW pros......then Round 2 with 3/3 again. Eventually get to a 6 man championship consisting of 3 Elites and 3 FLW. Scott Martin vs. KVD would be epic.

I thought about this a while...

Epic would depend on where they're fishing.

Open water my money is on KVD..Hands down!!

Anything shallow I'll take Martin.. No question!!

?

I thought I read somewhere that both Scott and his dad are trying to fish the opens to make the classic.

Roland is often called the best fisherman to never win the classic, so it would be a great way to finish his storied career.

i've watched a lot of the videos on his youtube channel, and kinda like the guy.  he seems like a pretty down to earth dude

His videos that show his chest cam while practicing for tournaments are probably the best and most informative.

I'm a big fan his content is pretty much the only stuff I watch on YouTube anymore. The quality of his production the variety of this videos and places he fishes and just the entertainment value

KVD and Martin have fished against and beaten each other before according to Martin. I watch his vids and feel like he isn't as diverse an angler as some of the guys doing well. Funny dude though. Thats why I watch. That and Brandon.
