With all the options available today, there is no reason to compromise. I want EVERYTHING to match or

contrast, including my line, hat, pants, shirt, shoes and vest.  That's just how I roll, but I DO NOT expect

the same of anyone I am fishing with. I will make suggestions about my partner's gear or presentation if

asked, but otherwise I REALLY don't care.

You and i are very different lol.  I fish socks in sandals (on the rare occasion I even wear shoes), an old hat I found floating in the lake a few years back, jeans, and whatever shirt I happen on have on my back.  Tackle? I fish with blue reels on black rods, green reels on dark brown rods, and green or yellow braid on everything besides cranking and buzzbaits.

I actually swap reels around pretty often, based on what I'm going to use the rod for.

I am with you, that green reminded me of that pea vomit green of Dodge and Chrysler vehicles of the early 70s.

My momma always told me to have clean underwear and matching socks incase I had to go to the hospital from an accident. Darned if when I did the EMTs cut them off before I ever had a chance to sport them.

Yeah, I think I like my stuff to match, at least a little, just for me because I like it that way, even if like my socks and underwear, nobody ever got to appreciate much.  Just saying.

I'm not a fan of bright reel colors. It doesn't mean I won't buy one at some point but if it was my choice every one of my reels would be black or silver/grey.

The one color I hate most is that curado 300e "vomit green" as I like to call it. I crossed it off my list when looking at swimbait reels for the color alone. Some will probably laugh at that but I can't stand how it looks.

Oh man, I think I dislike the rod accents even more than the reel lol. To each their own though, that's a nice setup and I've heard great things about the reel's performance.

Something just occurred to me: What are we supposed to do when...and I know this is horrible...the bait that's working doesn't match, or contrast with our gear?

...and what about tackle boxes?  What if they don't match the boat carpet?  Our purses have to match our shoes!

I'm trying to figure out what the L*a*b* values are for colors inside a ΔE of 2.0 to match the red shiny bits on my Tatula...

...and I just realized the dog is nowhere near an acceptable color for my boat.  He's gonna be ticked when I put him out on the curb with his kennel and food.

Somehow the old Dodge Duster never brought the room together like that outfit does, nice job Mr. Big 'un.

I bought a Toyota Tundra, it was a similar green, I traded it after a few months for an exactly the same blue one. If I had only had your outfit I would have kept it. Ha!

Yea it matters.  Life is too short to fish with ugly gear!

That is why I've never used a Berkley Shock rod...................yet.  :laughing7:

For me, it's nice if it matches, but if it doesn't it doesn't bother me.

Low pro and spinners should black, grey, or silver.  Round reels should be gold.  End of thread.

I don't care. I don't think the fish care either. And if there's anybody watching me fish, well, I need to find a less crowded place. :)

just curious, but how often are you asked to comment or make suggestions on somebody else gear or presentation?

OK, but what ΔE is acceptable?  2.0?  3.0...4.0?  We need answers! ;)

I wasn't a fan of the bright orange and greens of the new crop of reels coming out. That changed as I have been doing a lot of kayak fishing lately and like to be as visible as possible. No boat is going to miss seeing those neon green and orange colored rods and reels. I live 3 miles from a Dick's Sporting Goods and I can swear I see them from my house.

I do like my rods and reels to match however. Green rod and red reel? Only if I am fishing on Christmas day.

I have softened on my stance as I have gotten older. I would never have a Daiwa reel on a Shimano rod years ago, now I am not so OCD about it.

Whenever I fish with someone new or when a friend is buying equipment.

Presentation comes into play most often when we are fishing off shore over

deep structure. Fishing ledges is a specific example. Most of the time the fish

stack up just off the drop and facing upstream. Sometimes dragging a bait

rather than hopping makes all the difference in the world.

Interesting point!  Hadn't thought of that.

I use colors to make a lot of decisions. If I want a new reel and I have it narrowed down to a couple I purchase the best looking ones. I prefer bright colors to dark but I do like dark colors if they are bright accents. For some reason a lot of my setups are blue and orange (Go Gators). I bought a *** and Lews Mach Crush because of the color.

However, my workhorse reels are Black and Accent colors from Ardent. I use the accent colors to determine gear ratio like some said previous, saves time looking for a specific combo. plus the blue on the Apex Elite goes pretty good with my orange Carrot Stix.
