Just wondered with all of the crazy colors that reels are coming in now if it really matters to you....i've always preferred darker colors (black, greys and some silvers) but now here comes the bright greens, oranges and whatever that seafoam color is....and does it matter to you if it matches the rod? Doesn't really matter to me but some of my buddies want things to match...

No!

I know a lot of folks worry about the rod matching the reel and make a pairing decision by how it looks.

I couldn't care less.

I don't buy fishing gear to make a fashion statement.

Lots of folks like everything to be in perfect condition, polished bright with matched colors. Other folks just like their equipment to perform perfectly, if it matches it's a ok, while others couldn't care how it looks as long as it works. I am in the performance group, if it doesn't perform perfectly it gets fixed so it does and it's a bonus if it looks good.

To me it sort of matters but then again I like to keep my gear in pretty good condition and fish it as well. I prefer the sort of subtle things like a dark grey reel with a dark grey rod, or a red and *** with a red and black reel.

You can spend a lot of time, money, and effort getting things to match and compliment each other aesthetically but that is up to the user and what they prefer.

Most of my reels are black, grey, dark charcoal or some variant of the above. Some have aftermarket parts to add a little color to them like a cast control cap, drag star, or handle nut retainer.

I am not a fan of lime green nor am I fan of yellow or white rods or painted blanks for that matter.

It's a wonderful country we live in where we can focus on such things, and by the way it matters to me.  LOL

Personal choice, it's a wonderful thing to have that ability to be different. Even the older Abu Garcia cases are being made in vibrant colors. It's not for me, but for those who want to wear Suffix 832 in yellow on an Abu Garcia with lemon yellow cases, mounted on a Carrot Stick while wearing a yellow/orange polo shirt with the collar popped, they can.

It's a beautiful country as Bassman said!

I like the colors to tell the gear ratio

I never thought of that!

I don't have that many rigs I need to do that, besides, rod covers are a bunch cheaper!

 My Tatula 103s came that way , purple high speed, 8.1  to1. red 7.3 to 1 , Gold 6.3 to 1

Yes it sort of matters to me, I like for things to look good, but function is first. I also do not like using Daiwa reels on Shimano rods and vice versa. Just bugs me. But most of my rods are St Croix and Falcon with Shimano reels and a few Daiwa rods with of course Daiwa reels.

The good thing is that grey, silver, black, gold and other basic colors go with most anything at least good enough it does not hurt my esthetic sensibilities.

All of my reels are Lews in basic black. I really don't care for the bright colors they are coming out with.

I'm not a fan of bright reel colors. It doesn't mean I won't buy one at some point but if it was my choice every one of my reels would be black or silver/grey.

The one color I hate most is that curado 300e "vomit green" as I like to call it. I crossed it off my list when looking at swimbait reels for the color alone. Some will probably laugh at that but I can't stand how it looks.

Not even the slightest, tiniest little bit.

...but I deal with printing and color all day, so that might have something to do with it.

Note that worrying about color matching fishing rigs has zero to do with keeping it in top condition.

With all the options available today, there is no reason to compromise. I want EVERYTHING to match or

contrast, including my line, hat, pants, shirt, shoes and vest.  That's just how I roll, but I DO NOT expect

the same of anyone I am fishing with. I will make suggestions about my partner's gear or presentation if

asked, but otherwise I REALLY don't care.

Some how yes, some how no. I don't buy gear base on COLOR, with exceptional of this reel

I would have been happy if the CT Type R was blue being they are on Dobyns Champions. Oh well, they fish great. I just got a Diawa Tatula SV TWS and the finish on that reel is as nice as any I've seen. It goes well with my little black cocktail dress and pearls. It's the pits to to work the trolling motor pedal in stilettos.

I buy my rods and reels based on a lot of different reasons, color isn't one if them. If it happens to match all the better. If it don't so what. When it comes to my stuff, the only person I have to please is me!

I am with you, that green reminded me of that pea vomit green of Dodge and Chrysler vehicles of the early 70s.

My momma always told me to have clean underwear and matching socks incase I had to go to the hospital from an accident. Darned if when I did the EMTs cut them off before I ever had a chance to sport them.

Yeah, I think I like my stuff to match, at least a little, just for me because I like it that way, even if like my socks and underwear, nobody ever got to appreciate much.  Just saying.
