So with Rainbow trout season in just a few months, I am gonna get ready to hit the Guadalupe river.  I have an idea of what rod and reel I want (not wanting to break $130) - going for an Okuma SST Trout rod, 5'6 Ultra Lite with a Pfluger President spinning reel -- should I go for the smallest pfluger president reel or the next one up?  I'll be using around 4-6lb test for main line with 4lb fluro-- also will throw some 1/16th and 1/4 spinners on this.

Thanks dudes!

(side note, my brand new veritas 2.0 7ft med broke the other day, upon first cast :(:( )

25 size

The 20 size has a very small spool might have line management issues with fluoro. I use 8 pound braid on mine.

The 30 is big and might weigh too much, at nearly 9ounces, throwing off the balance a bit.

The 25 will give you a bit bigger spool and in the middle weight

yep have read of quite the number of veritas rods breaking.

25 will work fine for trout and then it's big enough to use for bass the rest of the year.

Agree, what more, you can use the spare reel to put the line for trout fishing

ive had no problems with mine except the biggest guides epoxy is a little loose. Their quality control must be having trouble, Their customer service is supposed to be really good though. I have the 7M also. Very sensitive and I've accidentally whacked it on the ceiling a few times. Still not broken. Hope you get that figured out.

I use a 35 for bass, and technically anything smaller should work for trout. I would go with the 25 which is rated for trout line but holds a little extra line and may be less likely to have line management issues.
