NHSwampDonkey Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I have recently been trying to get into shaky head fishing. I typically fish medium sized ponds in the northeast that are loaded with heavy grass. At any point on the pond, almost every cast I pull up a couple pounds of grass. I use the slow drag and shake technique along with a straight tail worm. Can anyone recommend a specific shaky head jig that comes trough the heavy grass well. Any other tips will also be appreciated. Thanks! Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 23, 2017 Super User Posted August 23, 2017 My first "other tip" would be to not try and force a particular bait or presentation into a situation it really wasn't designed for. Lots of better options in this case. That said, if you look toward something like a Spot Stalker or Omega Savior head or similar design, you can probably get by. 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 23, 2017 Super User Posted August 23, 2017 I hate when people answer a question different than what's being asked....so feel free to disregard.... I fish a lot of shakey heads, but, if in the grass, I generally don't. What I will do that presents similarly, but not necessarily vertically, is use slider heads. I get them direct: http://www.sliderfishing.com/HEADS-HOOKS_c7.htm My recommendation is to get a few pro sliders and spiders and a snagless and give them a shot when you get in the grass. 2 Quote
Primus Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Here is a good option, it's a title shot jighead .... https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiz05KHoO7VAhUEB2kKHQ0mCJ4YABACGgJpcQ&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESEeD2Q_aLh3B84442zH7q4OBK&sig=AOD64_35a9kOZz9kCfyL6px3idnBQpC7uQ&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwjTq4yHoO7VAhUI7oMKHWZPDogQvhcILw&adurl= Quote
Bulletman20XD Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I've mentioned these in another thread----Pepper Custom Baits Penetr8tor heads. Similar to the Title Shot. I can not put into words how good these things are in any structure especially grass. These heads were key to me winning several tourneys last year and a couple this year. I rig them with a Zoom Trick Worm (Z3 Bold Bluegill) exclusively. http://peppercustombaits.merge2media.com/product/penetr8or-shakey-head/ Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 30, 2017 Super User Posted August 30, 2017 Your over thinking this. Peg a bullet sinker to the nose of a worm and you'll have your "shaky head" that you can fish in grass. Trying to use jig heads that are not designed for fishing grass to fish heavy grass, is like trying to do major car repairs with nothing more than a crescent wrench. Sure you can do it, but it's not a wise move. Use the football, ball, stand-up, etc...type heads for rock, wood, clean bottom, or light grass, and t-rig for when you want to fish in the thicker stuff. 1 Quote
