Best way to store kayak with limited room?

Will be looking to purchase my first kayak soon. First problem, where the hell am I going to store this thing? I don't have a garage, I do have a small storage building out back, I MIGHT be able to stand it up in. Thing is, I live in Central Alabama and it's so humid down here it gets HOT, like hellfire and brimstone hot. I know right now inside my storage building out back it's probably easily 100+ degrees in there. 

 

Would I need to worry about anything cracking on the kayak if I was to store it in there?

 

I would throw it up on some saw horses and cover it with a tarp outside, but I'm scared, someone might like it a little more than I do and take it home with them, Plus I'm a heavy sleeper so not really sure I'd hear them in time to put a bullet in them before they make off with it. I might could find a spot in the house and stand it up, IF the girlfriend would allow it. So other than that I really have nowhere to store it. So would the storage building idea be a bad thing or an ok thing?

i have one of these in my basement holding my 12 ft.Kayak against the ceiling. Got it on amazon.

its called a Rad Sportz kayak hoist. think it cost $28.00.

its not a good idea to store a kayak in a hot building, it will probably warp. 

there are several brands available,of this same style hoist.

That's the problem, I live in a small barely 3 bedroom house with my girlfriend and 3 kids. Have really nowhere to put the thing other than that building or stand it up in my bedroom.

 

SCRATCH THAT, just measured my tallest ceiling in the house and it's only 8ft. So would be no way possible to stand it up in the bedroom. Guess I'm not getting a kayak.

i warped my first one in a hot garage. it sat on 2 saw horses. 

If you have to store it in a hot building, I suggest you support it well in the middle and on both ends.

I've seen online where some guys build an outdoor kayak rack, usually attached to a building. Assuming your buying a sit on top, you could run a cable through an eye  bolt and a scupper hole and lock it down.

I got a couple 8 foot cables from hardware store and some padlocks.  I lock them in the yard, to car racks when parked somewhere overnight...and occasionally to a tree near launch or beach if I need to leave them for a bit.  Won't deter someone determined with bolt cutters, but it will deter opportunist thieves.  In the yard, I keep them on the carts, covered by a plastic tarp, locked to a post.  Wife would like them up and out of the way more, but so far, I'm happy just how they are.

I have the same hoist, use it for a 14' canoe.  Works great.

That's what I'm thinking. So far my push mower and my 100 qt Coleman cooler hasn't left the yard. I could store it next to the house with 2 padlocks and cables. One padlock attached to the porch on one end, and another lock around my gas meter on the other end. THen cover with a tarp

Rent a small storage locker at your local U-Haul until you end up in a bigger place with where you can keep it.

You have a deck or a porch?  Store under that.
