Hi All,

I have a deeper pro + fish finder and i am looking to use it on open water in a kayak. I've read mixed reviews on the arm, and I was planning to just drag directly behind the kayak. Also, I will be using this in both fresh and salt water if that makes a difference. Does anyone have any experience with either the arm or dragging it behind a kayak.

Thanks!

Hey Whiskeypete!

I'm using a deeper sonar on my yak with the arm. I love them both.

I have a Feelfree Lure 10 kayak with solid molded handles which I figured would work out well for clamping the flex arm onto but the handles are just a little too wide for a secure fit, so I clamp mine to the steel tubing of my seat. I haven't had to adjust the clamp all season, even after paddling through thick pad fields. The flex arm and sonar shed most of that vegetation off pretty well too. Very rarely have i had to untangle anything from the sonar, and it doesn't interfere with transmission of info.

I'm strictly a fresh water gal, so can't help you with salt water applications but if there is anything more specific you want to know just ask, I'll do my best to answer.

One note of interest, if you do decide to go with the flex arm (and I would simply for fear of the line breaking in a rod application) I bought mine through Amazon for half the price of Cabelas or other vendors. $59 bucks is way better than $100+

Who makes deeper pro + fish finder? Are you looking to mount the transducer?

The company is Deeper Sonar and it's an "all in one" sort of thing that you either tie to your line and cast, or use a flex arm mount.  All the info transmits to a smart phone or tablet via Bluetooth.
