Quarry Man Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 I have been experiencing issues taking my 14' boat with a roller guide type trailer out of the water. I want a way to not get wet. I use mostly gradual boat ramps. Couldn't find much online. Thanks Quote
Super User Further North Posted August 20, 2017 Super User Posted August 20, 2017 Have you been driving the boat on the trailer? Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 20, 2017 Super User Posted August 20, 2017 Chunk the rollers & install bunk boards! 6 Quote

Roller trailers are a pain. my first boat was a 16ft Jon boat on a roller trailer. it took all of two fishing trips, to get rid of the rollers and install bunks. Quote

Power loading is against the law at all of the state operated and maintained ramps in Massachusetts. 1 Quote

So nobody does it? I didn't know the OP was from Massachusetts. ...you can still run the boat onto the trailer at speed, just kill the motor just before you get to the trailer... Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted August 21, 2017 Global Moderator Posted August 21, 2017 I have a 14' tin boat and fish lakes with gradual ramps as well. My boat is light enough that I'll pull my boat back 2-3 so it's hanging off the end of the trailer. This seems to help a little. 1 Quote
Quarry Man Posted August 22, 2017 Author Posted August 22, 2017 Thanks for the info guys! I am in PA, but fish in MA most of the time. i have no outboard, only a tm. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted August 23, 2017 Super User Posted August 23, 2017 Several things help. Install bunk boards but do not use carpeted bunks. Install the new style bunk board materials. I have the white stuff Bass Pro sold, it covers the entire bunk using two pieces on e each bunk. I think it is made of a teflon type plastic material. I used it on my electric only rig and when it gets wet itis like ice. Also install a walking plank on the trailer. Mine was made of aluminum with the black non slip tread material. It went from just behind the vertical capstan to just about where the trailer Ys out. I ran the boat on as far as possible and then "walked the plank" to the truck and dry land. The longer side boards help because you can put the trailer in deeper and the boat will still stay lined up correctly even though the back of the boat is not sitting on the boards as much. If you need pictures I can send a few to you of that boat and trailer setup. 1 Quote

And pictures would be great if you don't mind Quote

When you back in the trailer are you stepping into the water directly out of the vehicle? If so, you may need some type of waders. On shallow ramps I'll load the boat > step on trailer tongue climb into either the bed of the truck or the back of the SUV that I have left the tailgate up and put down the rear seats. So not the best way but it works for me when I dont want to get wet. 1 Quote

I do have waders and bring them in the winter. thanks for the advice! Quote
