Is it likely that this is bass feeding on frogs?

My favorite local pond has a heavy weed line on its far side. Hundreds and hundreds of frogs live there. Every time I go fishing there, I hear and see epic splashes and ripples and weeds moving all around. I assume this is bass feeding on those frogs?

Foraging on insects, bugs, frogs, and baitfish could be the cause of the blow ups.

A frog is a good lure in a place like that, either way.

Yes there is a strong possibility that the bass might be eating the frogs, especially at night. it might be a good idea to fish that area with hollow body frogs, soft plastic frogs, and other topwaters.

Are you sure it's bass? Carp love to flop around up shallow. For that matter, big bullfrogs can make a heck of a commotion themselves while chasing food around. 

Very possible it could be bass, and I'd certainly be trying to catch them in those areas.

It's bass. I see them once in awhile. I've never seen a carp in this pond, and this is a much heavier commotion than when the frogs are messing around.

I have caught TONS of fish on frogs over the years but I do remember an article a long time about how Bass don't like to eat frogs. They hate them and just like to kill them.

 

If my memory serves me correctly, it was one of well known West Coast anglers (Murray, Dobyns, or one of those guys).

 

Maybe you can search for it.

Yeah. I'm not really buying that. Frogs are a huge food source at this pond.

Every bass I ever cut open had shad or some other kind of minnows in its stomach. There was one I helped out by removing a crawfish claw from its nether regions before I released it. Didn't even get a thank you.

Bass will eat almost anything that fits in their mouths, and frogs are definitely on the menu. My grandfather use to tell me stories of all animals he found in bass and he did mention frogs to me as well as baby turtles.He was raised on a farm and fished for food, so he's probably prepared more bass to eat than most modern day bass fishermen. I haven't found anything inside a bass that can compare to baby turtles or frogs, but I am sure other bass fishermen have stories of even stranger animals found inside the stomachs of bass.

When i was a kid my best friend and i would catch frogs and take then doun to the lake. Would throw them in the lake betting each other on who's frog would make it to the bank first. They never made it back, so we started fishing with them and caught many bass. Bass like frogs

Toss a hollow body frog out there. I bet you you come back with another frog. My experience is that frogs are territorial as hell! Frog on frog violence is real!

In night fishing I have heard body slams that sounds like humans jumping in the water at night. At one spot I can toss a spinnerbait just infront of the tall weeds. I draw the bass out that way.

 

my neighbor in vt has a bass pond. We were catching frogs and feeding them to the bass. The frog would freeze and suspend, but fall very slowly. All of a sudden old bucket mouth came out of the darkness to hit it. Every frog did the slow falling act.

 

these videos show it's a war zone in the water. If the bass grew any bigger they would be nam eaters

And just so people don't misunderstand what my point was...

I 100% know that a Bass will hit a frog. I have caught hundreds of bass on frog baits.

What I was saying was that I don't know the reason they are hitting the frog. Was it to eat it, or just kill it?

I highly doubt that the bass actually think a hollow body frog is actually a live frog, I mean does a frog walked across the surface really look like the real deal?

Early this week I fished a small lake I'd never fished before.  A lot of weeds, especially near the shoreline.  I thought the surface commotion was bass feeding on frogs or chasing baitfish up near shore.  Using a senko, back to back casts caught bullfrogs!
