These old lures worth anything? Cleaning out tackle box!

 First, a bit of a story. Pretty much been fishing every since I was old enough to hold a rod. Over the years tho, I kind of drifted away and haven't really fished good in some few years now. My dad had bought me a Plano 737 Tackle Box years ago when they first came out because I liked his so much. When I quit fishing so much he emptied my box into his and he continued to fish.

 

Back last year I bought a new rod / reel setup and wanted to get back into fishing hard and heavy like I use to. Well now my dad has slowed down A LOT and don't really fish as much as he use to, he now pretty much spends his time shooting his long bows. So since he has his arsenal of Abu Ambassadeurs (Around 7 or 8 of them) already on his boat and fitted with the lures he fishes with most he just gave me his Plano 737 with all the lures in it.

 

I got to looking in it tonight and noticed quite a few of the lures have rusted / broken hooks, some of the bills are broken or have had the glue melted and fell off. So I wanted to clean the box up really well since I still like it and toss out all those broken / useless lures. As a lot of them look like they are maybe $1 from wal-mart, and I am going to start buying up some good lures like Senko's, Super Spooks, ect to fish with. But, before I throw everything away I just wanted to post a few pics on here and see if any of this stuff may be worth keeping. Appreciate the responses.

None of them are extremely old that I can see. A few that might go back to the 1970's, but all mass produced so no real monetary value if that's what you're after.

 

I'd fish all of them.

I'd put new hooks on them & use them.  One good thing about 30-40 year old lures that are no longer being made is most likely, the bass living today have never seen them.

Wasn't really wanting to sell any of them, more like just trash them and start over. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have some lure in there that wasn't mass produced that I prob should keep on a shelf somewhere. Appreciate the response.

Certainly don't trash them, there's plenty of good baits in there that will catch fish. Even if you don't want them you could trade, sell, or give them to someone else to use.

Use em....if your down by the lake and see a kid fishing...offer him or her a bait or two if you want.  Then go get yourself a new bait and enjoy the life of being a tackle junkie..

Ain't no bass I ever met that can tell the age of a lure! Personally, I'd try chucking a few of those. Mebbe replace some of the hooks if they are dull/rusted. I've got an aged Hula Popper and haven't found that bass turn their noses up at it.  Slap the Bait Monkey upside his pointy little head and ignore him until you try them! Can't tell for sure, but that middle pic has a lure that certainly resembles the Devil's Horse I was using when I caught my PB. Of course, if you're thinking about soft plastics ....

You've got some fine lures there. Nothing of particular value, but all priceless when it comes to catching bass. Enjoy!

Lots of good serviceable baits there. I see Rapalas, Pop-Rs, Spooks, etc. I don't see anything that needs to be thrown out. Now, adding to them,,,,

I'd definitely fish all those. Replace the hooks, epoxy the bills back in and fish them. You can definitely add new stuff but there's nothing wrong with the old stuff. If you really don't want it consider donating it to a kids fishing organization.

I do have one question about one of the crank baits. It has 2 spots on it's bill to tie line onto. Is that a deep diving / shallow diving spots?

 

Also I appreciate all the responses. I believe I'll clean some of these up and see what I can make work. And the older ones like the devil horse I'll just put on a shelf.

Some of those old bumpier foil Rapalas are classic.  They were the first of the foil style that they came out with.  Also, the painted straight line on the minnow baits indicate (with the red mustache) that they are the made in Finland versions.  I saw use them.

Maybe the older I get the more I think about things from all angles. Those baits might not have high value in the collectors world but the one thing that I keep thinking about is this; If you keep them, at some point In time they will hold a heck of a lot of sentimental value In that they were your daddy's. Those types of baits have the highest value of all. Just my opinion.

This^^  When I was a kid, the hardest thing about fishing was being able to afford to buy any decent lures.  If I lost a Hula Popper, it was a couple of weeks of chores to save a buck to replace it.  If anyone offered me any sort of tackle, I'd jump on it.

Do your homework, group the lures together by mfr like Rapala, Heddon, Storm, etc and put them on eBay, you never know a collector might offer you a few $. The only thing you need to toss is the terminal tackle.

Appreciate the responses. Might throw them up on here and see if anyone is interested in any trades. I got a whole side panel on the box full of spinnerbaits, and found a few packs of worms and other goodies in the top of the box.

That might be a pre-rap wiggle wort in the last pic. One that is upside down with orange bottom. If it says "wiggle wort" on the bottom of the bill it may be worth $25 or so.

Someone sent me a message soon as I posted the pics asking me to take pics of that one they wanted to buy it. Turns out it had no markings on it or anything.

I'd take a  bunch of them off your hands if you are just going to throw them out. I like fixing "older" things into something useable. I'd be willing to throw you a couple bucks for shipping/handling. Just don't throw them away.

There are Rat L Traps, a Spook, Shad Raps, Some Rapala and maybe Rebel minnows. I don't see much "junk" in there. Meybe a few of the smaller cranks. I might yard sale them and the box, but I'd keep most of this.

Just looked at BPS and wal-mart online and the box is still $57 at wal-mart and $69.99 at BPS. Plus I have 2 of these boxes. Might try and sell them and pick up a backpack for my gear.
