spencer12 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Hello everyone, back in late March I purchased a Daiwa Tatula rod from tacklewarehouse. It's my main rod I use 50-75% of the time while on the water. Anyways yesterday morning on the third cast of the day I got my jig hung up in some cover, no biggie. So as I've done a million times before I trolled over to my jig, and reeled all the way down to it and popped it out. When I went to straighten out my jig trailer I noticed that the tip line guide had snapped off cleanly. This ruined my whole trip as I only had 4 rods with me, 2 being cranking rods. So my question is who do I need to send it back to to have it repaired/replaced? Should I contact tacklewarehouse, or Daiwa directly? Is this covered under Daiwas 5 year warranty on this particular rod? Suggestions please. Also I have no intentions of even attempting to repair this myself. Quote
Shanexd9 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 You could find a shop that's close by to have it repaired. I broke the tip off of one of my rods and the guy fixed it in about 5 minutes and it cost me like $2.50. That route may save you some time. Quote

BTW is this reg tatula or tatula XT? I have heard a lot about broken tip on Daiwa rod especially xtra fast tip. I also got a broken tip daiwa tatula MH/F 6'10 myself, luckily Daiwa head quarter is in CA and not too far from me, I drove there show the rod and got a replacement same day. 22 minutes ago, Shanexd9 said: You could find a shop that's close by to have it repaired. That is a good fix if you don't want to wait or don't have warranty on the rod, but just replacing the tip would make the rod stiffer. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted August 13, 2017 Super User Posted August 13, 2017 Go local There are lots of independant tackle shops that can handle it for less than $10. They will take just minutes to do it. You may even have a custom rod builder local that does it. The tackle shop should know who to talk to. I would not consider shipping it off to Daiwa. That type of damage will rarely ever be considered a defect. You yourself said it happened while trying to get a lure back. The factories offer warranties against their mistakes not your mistakes. tkunk Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I've broken a couple of rods and reels. In my experience, it's much better to go through TW than directly through manufacturers. With Shimano and Daiwa (both of which are awesome companies IMO), it can take a few months to get a replacement product. With TW, it takes a couple of weeks. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 If it broke right at the tip just get a new tip top glued on. If it broke further down it needs replacement to keep the action unchanged. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 14, 2017 Super User Posted August 14, 2017 At the rod tip you loose about 5/8" of the rod tip, new tip guide like DVT suggested. Don't know about Daiwa's warranty for operator error using the rod tip for a lure knocker. Tom Quote

Must be really very hard to pull the line with your hand instead of pulling with the rod to unsnag the lure ........... Quote
