Weird request, Husky Jerk, pond magic.

This is kind of weird but I need your help since I do not have any good scale.

can any body give me an actual weight on Rapala Husky Jerk size 08 and Booyah Pond Magic spinner. From spec HJ08 supposed to weight 1/4 oz and Pond Magic 3/16 oz. 

I got a new rod for this lure weight which is MF 1/8-1/4. I can launch Pong Magic pretty good distance 30-40yds but with HJ08 I got only 40-50 feet. 

The reel in question is Daiwa Alphas SV105 which recently I cleaned and found struck inductor in high position.

The husky jerk isn't going to cast far because it is a minnow bait and they catch a lot of air. That is why just about every new jerkbait has the weight transfer system in them. If you watch when you cast that bait it flies just like the regular Smithwick Rogues, it will turn sideways and "kite" meaning the air will sometimes push it right, left up or down for know reason, it just goes which ever way the air grabs it. The weight transfer system of new baits keeps the weight at the back of the lure preventing it from turning sideways and catching too much air which will slow the bait down and decrease casting distance. That was a big reason a lot of anglers would use spinning rods with minnow baits as early casting reels didn't have the braking systems to help minimize backlashes when the minnow or jerkbait would kite.

Thanks, That might answer it. It feels like Pong Magic get more load on my rod than Husky Jerk so I suspect it is heavier than 3/16.

3/16 is probably just the head weight. Not counting the blade, wire ,hook, and skirt

CroakHunter is correct, 3/16oz just the size of the head, real weight is probably closer to 5/16oz.

or a smidge more.....I just weighed 2 Pond Magic's. The white is 10.22g or 0.360oz (heavier than 5/16), the chartreuse Pond Magic is 9.5g or 0.335oz (again a bit heavier than 5/16).

 

Sadly I don't have an HJ08 to weigh as I only seem to have HJ10's.

Thanks, a lot of help there. So my new rod 1/8-1/4 oz is good for 1/4-3/8, I guess. Next time gonna try my Lite power rod with HJ08.

It will probably get you 5 more feet on a cast but not much more. Again, it is because that style bait catches a lot of air, it is why weight transfer systems were developed. You can drop down line size or change the type of line in addition to the rod but truth be told, you aren't going to see a noticeable change in distance from a rod rated 1/8oz to 1/4oz to something lighter. I ML in a long rod, maybe 7'6" will get you more distance but then it becomes difficult to work the bait, I thing you either live with what you have or get a bait in the same size with a weight transfer system or a little bit more weight. The Spro McStick 95 weighs 3/8oz and is only like 3/16" longer, it will get you better distance than the size 8 husky jerk.
