Floating jerkbait suggestions...

I'm looking for a couple of suggestions for a floating jerkbait... 4"- 4.5", plastic, shallow diving <2', slow rising, moderate to tight action', weight transfer system.

The mcstick is a suspending that will rise with the proper line or very slow retrieve, but does to hover best at 4 feet.........I do know the the BPS knock-off will float

Sounds like a Rogue...never had a 'suspending' Rogue that didn't float. While I don't think the Rattlin Rogue technically has a weight transfer system, they do cast pretty well despite...I also have an x-Rap that is supposed to suspend, but does a slow float in any temp water

I haven't been able to find a Flashminnow 95 for awhile, although there seems to be plenty of the 110 available.  Koppers Livetarget has a perch pattern that fits my parameters and Luck-e-strike is supposed to have a floating version of the STX but I keep finding the STX labeled as suspending and it works a little deeper than I'm looking for.  Unless I get a better idea I'll probably default to a Flashminnow 110, which isn't the worst choice I've ever made.

I have an extra flashminnow 80F if that'll work for you...

 

I suggest Katsuage outbarbs to replace one or at most two stock trebles on the 110SP flashminnow if you decide to go that route. That is pretty much the only super shallow jerkbait I fish. I actually sometimes (in colder water) have to use suspenstrips to get it to suspend.

 

I think there are some 110F flashminnows too, in addition to the usual SP version. But my hunch is their float rate would be faster than you might want (although that's fixable with heavier hooks).

 

Another option might be the original daiwa td minnow (not the newer ones). I have one of the older jdm ones. It does dive to about 3 ft or so though, and floats up fairly fast (about the float rate of an 110 silent riser).

 

The vision 110 magnum has a similar depth and float rate (similar to the td minnow).

 

P.S. No idea about the Koppers or the RCSTX

Zerek Sabre Dance - change out the hooks to a bigger size and it rises slowly.

I've always liked the Rogue, and I also like the Bagley Minnow B, very similar to a rogue. They fit your requirements except for the weight transfer system which is going to be hard to find in a floating model that dives less than 2' and is 4" long. In fact, I don't believe there is a bait that will fit all the requirements because if they have a weight transfer system they either suspend, sink, or diver deeper than 3' or are 3.5" or less in length.

I was looking for something similar to fill a niche to fit my 4 year olds style and offer ease of use, castabilty, and not diving too deep.  I found the Cabelas 3 1/2" floating minnow is perfect...Its supposedly a hair under 4", but seems to be bigger without measuring and casts really good. The action is good and some of the patterns like gold/black back and blue back are as good as a premium bait. The matzuo hooks are pretty sticky sharp. And you can get them under 3 bucks also.

I second @A-Jay's recommendation of the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad. I fish it regularly over weedbeds and edges in 5' of water with great success, and the slow rise is just the ticket in the warm summer months. I throw it on 20lbs Power Pro with an 8lbs InvizX leader.  It comes in a variety of colours so you shouldn't have any problem matching the forage in the lakes you fish.

Attila... thanks for the suggestion, I'm looking for one even a little shallower running.  But on another note, I've never seen anyone rig their live bait to a jerkbait before?  (You seem to be someone who can take a little good natured ribbing... and give it back)

Ya, I've been tipping all my artificial lures with live bait in hopes of catching that one big bass that cannibalizes smaller fish...after all, live bait has always been the ticket for me.  

 

Seriously though, I started throwing the Shadow Rap Shad because everyone else on that pier was complaining they weren't catching anything...I caught that one on my first cast towards an outside weed edge...lol
