Reel for a chatter bait rod.

I picked up the Dobyns DC 736 cb Glass rod for throwing chatter baits and need a reel for it.
I think I have it narrowed down to 3 reels. All in 6.X - 1

1. Diawa Steeze A
2. Diawa  Zillion SV TW
3. Shimano Curado K

Of these, witch would be your pick and why. Any other options you suggest are fine, but tell us why. Not just because I use it. Just know I am pretty set on one of these 3 unless a very convincing argument can be made for another reel.

I like both of the Daiwa reels but you might want to add the new Daiwa Tatula SV TWS. Much of the engineering on the Zillion has been brought down to the new Tatula SV TWS reel.  The reel is built on the smaller Tatula CT body and gets some good reviews by friends of mine that already fish them. These guys are rel fanatics and own many of the more expensive reels. They also think nothing of purchasing a high dollar reel and doing a bunch of upgrades and adding bling to them.  I sorta trust their opinions.

I am not suggesting it is superior to those on your list only that it might belong on your list.

 

I have recently messed around with a friends Shimano Chronarch MGL and it was pretty nice if you are a Shimano guy.

You don't need anything special for them. Pick the reel that feels best to you and go with it.

I have a couple of the Tatula sv tw reels and they are nice, also have a couple of the Steez sv tw1016 reels and one of the new Curado 200k. And last but not least a Chronach mgl. 

 

The light weight of the steez would be lost on this rod and the Chronarch, while a nice reel is ugly with the dial on the side. The Tatula SV reels are nice. But just wondering if I am missing anything with the first 2 reels on my list.

 

I have been on a gear buying frenzy the last 3 months. New rods, reels, and terminal tackle.

I also purchased a Dobyns 736CB Glass and paired it with a Lews BB1 Pro.   I'm using this rod for chatterbaits, buzzbaits, larger spinnerbaits (>=3/4oz), larger lipless cranks, squarebills, etc.  Relatively large line capacity of the reel makes it attractive for chatterbaits and buzzbaits.

Don't worry about the manufacturer, but the reel speed is my choice for chatter baits, but any speed will do.  I fish my chatter baits with a  6.4:1 reel speed.

I don't have any experience with any of these reels but if it was in my budget, I'd get the Steez. I use a 6.3:1 Tatula CT as my chatterbait reel and it works great for me, so I'm sure the Steez could handle it just fine

For some reason, I started this experiment with the Curado 70HG on my Dobyns Champion 734C for chatterbait. Small Profile which I am liking it but I still have my trusty Bass Pro Pro Qualifier standing by to be called up....

That Qualifier is an amazing little reel.  Five years ago I picked up on a big sale and fished it until last year on a frog rod with 50lb braid and that reel was a little work horse.  Last year I traded it in for $50 toward a Curado 70, but I never had a complaint on that reel.

I went with the Diawa Zillion sv tw 6.3. After doing a lot of reading I came to the decision that the steez was a little to much and the tatua sv tw while suitable, was not the reel I was looking for. So I opted for what I thought would be a great work horse reel in the Diawa Zillion

Daiwa CT Type-R 6.3.1 is what I use.

I have this rod and have paired it with the Tatula SV and Curado K, both in 6:1 gear ratio.  I have no experience with the Zillion SV but I have had a Zillion TWS.  I don't think you can go wrong either way.  

 

I may prefer the Tatula SV slightly to the Curado K.  It took me a while to dial in the Tatula SV after having many Tatula CT's.  After getting used to them I much prefer them over most reels.   Dollar for dollar it's hard to beat the feel and performance of the Tatula SV (can be had on ebay for $132).

 

I have to say I absolutely LOVE the rod and will be getting another one.  I've been throwing med-deep diving cranks.  It's very light and the action is perfect for trebles with a really solid back bone.  I have yet to throw a chatter bait on it but plan to soon.

I too have the Tatula SV, but I would honestly say it's the easiest reel to setup that I have ever used, at least once you figure it out. It's not like other reels, I usually set the tension knob to the point the reel begins to click and the brake from 6 to 10, depending on my casting confidence on any given day. I don't have to change it if I go from a lighter bait to a heavier one either, it's just good to go.
