NoSlackin' Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Thinking about trying out the MJ rig to pick up my summertime blues. Not much of anything is working well, get lucky here and there but can't seem to find a consistent bait that just works. What do y'all think? I pond hop and fish off a few local lakes so just looking for overall an effective presentation. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted August 7, 2017 Super User Posted August 7, 2017 I have used it to decent effect in small ponds, but it makes a senko even more fragile. I like the Biospawn sticks, the blade really stays put even after a few fish and they have a nice wiggle when you swim them back. I tend to use a largish calorado blade as I want the drag to be high so I can swim it back super slow. Honestly I don't use it at all on larger water, but as a small water search bait it works well enough. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 8, 2017 Super User Posted August 8, 2017 By MJ I assume you are asking about a mojo rig? If that is what you are asking about a split shot rig using a pegged cylinder weight then that should be a good pond presentation. Tom Quote

Tom No Tom , the "MJ" rig discussed here is a soft plastic stick bait with about 1/4th of an inch cut off the tail and then a hitch hiker screwed into the tail with an approx. #2 willow leaf blade or #2 Colorado blade added . Then slowly swim the soft plastic stick bait back at various depths (including the bottom) with the added flash of the willow or Colorado blade in the tail to trigger strikes . *Timmy Horton brought it to popularity here in the South but learned it from some guy whose initials were "MJ" , so there you have it ... Be the first on one of your Cali lakes to give it a try ! Quote

Super User J Francho Posted August 8, 2017 Super User Posted August 8, 2017 I say stop thinking and start doing. Pond fishing is about tossing something that stands out from the crowd. 1 Quote
