Nick Fowler Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Hey Everyone, I am about to head out to my local reservoir Swift Creek and I wanted to get some advice about where I should fish because of the heat. All tips and comments are appreciated as well as bait suggestions. Keep in mind I will be in a kayak and will not be able to move around the lake that fast. Thanks for your help! Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 The fish are either in the shallows, the deep water, or somewhere in between If that doesn't make sense, or comes across as a smart aleck answer, do a little reading of Buck Perry's material. On any given day, fish are biting somewhere in the lake, but often we can only speculate as to where. By having some type of process you follow to eliminate certain sections of the lake in an orderly manner, you'll eventually arrive at the fish AND understand why. Otherwise, you're likely "just fishing" and won't learn near as much from the experience. JMHO 3 Quote
Bass XL Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 You can cover some water flippin and pitching this surface cover with some sort of punch bait. Also throwing a frog over the top might get you some results. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Swift+Creek+Reservoir/@37.4371354,-77.698404,278m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b17147dc1b5a0b:0x94552f7b071687c2!8m2!3d37.434166!4d-77.6679292 Also, since you have a kayak, you can get to areas most people cant. Why not try way up swift creek https://www.google.com/maps/place/Swift+Creek+Reservoir/@37.4471344,-77.6988311,1004m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b17147dc1b5a0b:0x94552f7b071687c2!8m2!3d37.434166!4d-77.6679292 1 Quote
MichaelCopeland Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I would target them in the water...lol! Seriously though, I would look for shaded areas with points, emerged vegetation, laydown trees in the water, rip rap and/or noticeable breaklines. If you have some kind of electronics you should be able to find the submerged vegetation as well as humps, drop offs etc. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 Just looked at the small 156 acre lake, very narrow with lots of shore timber and lay downs, the water appears to be off color green. So.... Kayak I would start at the dam and fish the right side moving up lake including every cove, point and any rocks you can find, then turn around and fish back on the left bank. There are so many laydowns that can hold bass I would target the deeper wood first in the summer or if you can fish at night! Jigs and worms in the deeper areas and Chatterbait, spinnerbait (if there is some wind) or buzzer in the shallower areas, plus the soft plastics. Tom 1 Quote
