topwaterw Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 (edited) I've heard a lot about the Whopper Plopper bait and am looking to buy one in the near future. The only issue for me is picking the size, 90 or 130? In my lake we usually don't catch very large largemouth bass on a regular bases, normally around one to three pounds. For the price I don't want to get a lure that is too big or too small for the bass, so, what do you guys think? Edited August 6, 2017 by topwaterw Starred out original post. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 There are quite a bit of thread about whopper plopper on this forum. This thread just recently. Read in this pros and cons. There are 90, 110, 130 and I believe 190. Each has different advantages and different requirements mostly about equipment. 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 There's probably 50 threads asking the same question if you use the search bar. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of the sizes other than maybe the 190. Even one pounders will crush the 130 though so don't shy away from it if you have a rod that can handle it. Super User tcbass Posted August 6, 2017 Super User Posted August 6, 2017 The new 110 if you're using baitcasting gear. There's a reason the 110 was recently created. Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Sounds like you need the 110 to me. I really like mine. Quote
NoSlackin' Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I like the 90s because they don't sink as far on the initial drop helping keep them weedless, but I will also be buying a 110 for when weeds are less of an issue. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 9, 2017 Global Moderator Posted August 9, 2017 All of them, the correct answer is you need all of them 3 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 9, 2017 Super User Posted August 9, 2017 I hate to say " use the search function" as it appears to be rude, but given the amount of feedback on this topic, it would be worth the time to do so. That said, the 110 has out produced any other top water this year with quality fish, regardless of time of the. I have better solutions for the 90 so I don't throw it. As far as the larger, it is situational. If you buy q get the 110 As for colors, white, black, bone..........I usually have the white tied on for daytime fishing Quote
Djman72 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I use a 110 and haven't had any issues with it. It performs very well for me so far. I usually shy away from the "hot bait of the year" but I am starting to love me some whopper plopper. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 11, 2017 Super User Posted August 11, 2017 So size matters? You bet it does! Go with the smaller version in bone or monkey butt. Just be sure to balance your rod, reel, line test and bait weight when setting up your Plopper. Quote
Todd2 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I only have one....130. If I buy another, it'll be the 110. Quote
jonkevin Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 I have the 110 in monkey butt, loon and bone and the 90 in bone and blue and I have had the most success with the 110 and all colors have produced for me. I have yet to catch anything on the 90. Quote
