MikeRad89 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Hey all, been fishing for 3 or 4 years but always with spinning rods. Bought myself a garbage baitcaster to attempt to learn how to use it. Got the quantum nitrous. Long story short I spooled my 15# mono and tied a crank bait. I set the tension spool so that when in free spool the lure drops slowly. Problem is when I go to real it in the line won't come in. Probably a simple fix but I can't figure it out. Quote
Nor-Cal Basser Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 The drag is probably loose. There should be a star shaped piece connected to the handle, known as the star drag. Turn this forward to tighten the drag as much as you see fit. I fish with the drag locked down, but others do not. 1 Quote

Yup. First thing to check. At least you remembered to set spool tension. I have been guilty a time or two of forgetting to set both spool tension and brakes with a new-to-me reel....to my sorrow on the first cast. The good thing is I am pretty good at removing backlashes now. Quote
