My local Gander Mountain has 40% off all rods right now (they're closing, and will be opening back up as Gander Outdoors).

I was eye-balling some of their Gander Mountain brand rods. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with them. Thanks.

Haven't tried their bait casters yet, but their Tournament Series (HM54) spinning rods are killer for that price and well worth it.

I have a 6'6" MH-F vortex casting. that I use a lot.  It is good casting spinnerbaits under docks, bushes, and trees very accurately.  I got it last Black Friday when it was marked down to $12.99 on the website.  If you can get one for under about $40, I'd think about it, but if it's under $20 then I would definitely do it.  Just know you won't be able to cash in on the warranty as the company is going out of business

like this guy my $12.99 Vortex spinning rod lasted 15 minutes before breaking.  apparently their site has bad reviews i didn't take the time to read b/c the price was 'too good'.

not sure about his language thru entire video so youtube:

Huh, I also bought a 6'6" ml vortex, and I haven't had any issues with breaking.  I really like it for ned rigs, and 1/4 ounce shallow cranks.

just some more food for thought for OP I guess:

a bunch of guys are very happy with the rod.

a bunch of guys have rods that broke.

who know's how they'll handle warranty issue?

I do not have a GM location near me and a $12.99 rod is not worth shipping costs even if they do cover under warranty.

Well I went ahead and bought a 7' med-heavy Tournament Series casting rod. Reg. $80 on sale for $48. I figured why not for that price?

Hopefully it holds up. Thanks for all the input guys. Now I have to decide if I want the Fenwick that they had there..

I don't have a current Gander rod, but 6 years ago I happened into our Gander and they were having a close out on a bait cast rod they labeled a "Titanium" marked down to $50 from $99.99.  They only had three left in  6'6" Mediums and what a rod it has been.  Super light weight before the light weights hit the market and very sensitive.  It is still a primary bait caster for me and really fun with which to fish.  You never know.
