Super User tcbass Posted August 5, 2017 Super User Posted August 5, 2017 This lure seems to be the unicorn of baits right now with them being sold out everywhere or at highway robbery prices on EBay. Wondering if any member has used one and what their experience and thoughts are: 1.) How effective was it? 2.) Do you have to squeeze water out of it like some other frogs? 3.) Where does it fall in your arensal: favorite, least favorite, somewhere in between and why? I can't wait to receive mine (it appears around Aug 15th) but don't want to be disappointed if they take on water and have to be squeezed all the time or if they didn't resolve the problem with the tail not spinning properly. I know my homemade ones are working great, hope the actual original works better though. Quote
Leftymuk Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Great for muck and open water......yes you need to squeeze out water.....right up around the top as far as top water goes 1 Quote

How is your hook up percentage on bites? Any use in lily pads? Quote
Leftymuk Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Hook up is great after modifying like normal hallow bodies Quote

There's like four or five separate topics that he started about it. To the teckel sprinkler loving op, since you've already ordered it anyways, does it really matter how effective it is for other people? 2 Quote

Plus, I didn't want to hijack those otjer threads. Wanted to see what orher peoples experiences are with it. Didn't want to get my hopes up. If everyone said it didn't work as advertised and sucked, I'd know in advance and be more prepared for the let down. lol. Quote
MichaelCopeland Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I've heard good things about them, but I don't have any experience with them. In my opinion though, just because it doesn't work well for some doesn't mean it won't work well for you. Just in case though don't set your hopes too high. Maybe even set them fairly low that way if it works great for you it will be like a bonus. My guess would be if the homemade version was working well for you then the original should work at least as well if not better. Good luck with it! Quote

What sucks is that I have a big fishing trip coming up and the frogs are supposed to come in the day after I return. lol. 1 Quote
BassinBrian20 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Friend used one the other night on Chicamauga. Its weedless, dosent sink at all, never filled with water and he stuck 5 out of the 6 bites he got. Fishing it after dark the hits were explosive, he out fished me as I was throwing a buzz bait on grass edges. He got fish in the grass and in open water. Its truly an awesome bait. Cant wait to get my own. 2 Quote

Is there any chance they could come in before your big fishing trip? Quote

I've seen the date move more than once. Also i think that's when they get them back in stock, not when you will receive it. 1 Quote

I've waited nearly a year, and see in stock dates pushed back multiple times more than once for hard to get items. 1 Quote

You should be ok if they don't come in before then. The homemade ones do good for you and you're fine tuning them so they should work even better. Good luck on your big fishing trip! Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I made my own in 15 minutes. It does not fill up with water, runs perfect, and was done for about 13bucks. It's a cool bait and the way I made mine allows me to change tail size and color as well as swivel quality quickley.... Tail size and swivel quality put of slightly different sounds. Quote

Lendiesel22 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I used KVD frogs and sampo swivels to get my best results. Tried the split ring way from the tube and didn't like it. Switched to running wire through the frog and out the drain hole and it was much better. Put a loop in the wire out the back of the frog so I can slide the rigged tails on and off. Better swivels and smaller tails run fast like a tiny torpedo, and lesser swivels and fat tails put off a slower big gurgle. Trying to find a "squeaky" swivel now. Quote
